continue reading

I have been hearing good comments about Boon Tong Kee chicken rice, hence decided to try it out for myself. Headed to one of their branch at MacPherson as I was around that area and decided to order the set meal for 1 person for my lunch. Here's a photo of the restaurant shop front. This side of the restaurant is the non-air conditioned area. Although it's non-air conditioned for this section, you get to see the chef preparing your meal. Here's another photo of the restaurant shop front. This side of the restaurant is the air-conditioned area. I decided to sit in the air-conditioned area as the weather was simply scorching hot.I also felt the restaurant concept was interesting as they divided their restaurant into 2 sections, the air-conditioned and the non air-conditioned area. I reckon it is purposely done to cater to their restaurant patrons preference as some may not like to eat in the air conditioned environment. Here are some more photos to share with you.My yummy chicken rice set meal for 1 person which cost $5 in total, inclusive of 1 can of soft drink. A close up view of the white chicken. Don't you think it looks yummy? This outlet comes with a LCD television. Pity the television wasn't placed in a location where majority of the diners can view it. I believe only those tables that are in front of the television can watch it whereas those who are sat near the entrance or those who sat at the back of the restaurant can't really watch it due to the odd angle. I certainly can't view it properly. There are some nice decorations hung on the wall, which coupled with the nice light balls hanging on the roof, helps to beautify the place and provide a nice dining ambiance for diners. This is a shot of the restaurant interior. Looking at the way this restaurant was being decorated and also the choice of the tablecloth design, my first impression was that this restaurant could be selling western food. You wouldn't guess that it is selling chicken rice. Kudos to the owner who had adopted this design style. I love it. Simple and classy. Look at the wall furnishing. It certainly looks posh and the wall also has a nice colour combination.Overall, my experience at Boon Tong Kee was great. Although each item in my set meal looks simple enough, such as the bowl of rice, white chicken, chilli sauce & dark soy sauce, but they tasted great. I felt that even though none of the items stood out, they were all equally good and worked well in harmony to provide a satisfying chicken rice experience for me. The bowl of rice was fragrant and cooked just right for my liking. The white chicken was also prepared nicely and the meat tasted tender and goes very well with the light soy sauce. I love the feeling of the mixture of the light soy sauce and the chicken juice when I bite into the chicken meat. The experience was heavenly when you mix a little bit of the chilli and dark soy sauce to the chicken meat. For the chilli sauce, the spiciness was just nice and it has a very traditional "chicken rice" taste to it. I am sure Boon Tong Kee would have many supporters and detractors but one thing I am sure of is if you have overseas friends who are in Singapore and they want to try out some unique Singapore dishes such as chicken rice, Boon Tong Kee is one good choice to consider as you can get to eat good chicken rice in a modern, clean and classy environment. I forgot to mention that while I was eating, soothing classical music played in the background and made my dining experience pleasant. From the restaurant setting to the soothing music, it almost made me forgot that I am not having a western meal but I am indeed having a uniquely Singapore dish, the chicken rice. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 as mediocre and 10 as very yummy, I would give the overall dining experience as a rating of 9.5. continue reading

If u care just about the food and not the ambience, then this is the place for u. Famous for their white chicken, fragrant rice and chilling sauce. U can ask for boneless chicken too. If i am not wrong, u can request for chicken thigh instead of breast meat BUT with a price to pay. Please bring your own container if you are taking away and you want their soup. My parents always buy their bento box set, which consist of rice, chicken meat, meatballs& salad. In my own opinion, it is much cheaper than dining in and order ala carte in their menu. Their seafood noodles is nice too, but abit salty. I also love their fried tofu, which is really soft and fried to golden brown. Yummy! (: oh ya.. They sells roasted chicken too.. But i think you must get at least half a chicken or a whole. It is Yummy too! continue reading
