I came to know about Da Zhong cafe after reading ieatishootipost review on it. A unique point of this coffee stall is that the uncle still uses the super traditional brass pots instead of the stainless steel ones to make kopi! Although stainless steel pots are more hardy than brass pots, the uncle still insist on using brass pots as it is a better conductor of heat and he feels that the kopi tasted better. After knowing all that, I had to try it!! I got a cup of Kopi C and true enough, it was good The coffee is strong and it didn't had the sourish after-taste found at most hawker coffee stalls.

It is via the old and traditional method of brewing coffee and filtering it through the “socks”, attached to the flasks. As most places has already switched to using steel flasks, Da Zhong Cafe continue to use brass flasks.The Kopi-O ($0.60) is excellent as it tasted strong and bitter (the traditional way). Great kopi at a cheap price, this is definitely one of the better ones out there.The Steamed Bread with Kaya & Butter ($1) is also something to order. Usually not sold elsewhere nowadays, the steamed bread was soft and fluffy with excessive kaya & butter. Thumbs up for this as well!With such traditional kopi sellers being a banishing trade, it is great to order a cup of kopi and a slice of bread to relieve memories if you are around the Kovan area.

There are two types of toasts available and we took both. The Steamed Bread with Kaya & Butter ($1.00) was delivered warm and fluffy, with a generous amount of kaya and butter spread. It tasted pretty nostalgic, with a very sinful yet pleasant buttery taste to the toast that it is rare to find these days.The(Toasted Bread with Kaya & Butter ($1.00) comes similar except that the bread was being toasted. It was not toasted excessively, and retained the fluff with the added crustiness on the top.Nothing beats a good cup of Nanyang coffee with kaya toast. After having the Kopi ($0.70) from Da Zhong, I am convinced enough to say that it is pretty nostalgic. It is just of the right thickness without being bland nor too rich. The condensed milk added was also enough to sweeten the Kopi without being cloying sweet. It was the same Kopi we grew up knowing in the past.

I was here on a Sunday afternoon, so I decided to treat myself to some traditional coffee. There was a queue at Da Zhong Cafe as usual, with many people buying more than a cup for their families and I had to wait a couple of minutes for my turn. I took a look around the food centre and I saw almost every table in the surrounding area with their signature white kopi cups on most of the tables. I bought a cup of kopi C for myself and I was treated to a really aromatic cup of coffee, that was full bodied and definitely perked up my afternoon. This is Nanyang style coffee so it was not overwhelmingly bitter. A steal at 70 cents per cup! When I decided to go back to the stall to takeaway some more coffee, I was actually told they sold out of coffee! Really surprised at how popular the stall is!

You never miss this stall, as you will notice long Q forming every minutes. You will tot that they are selling cook food but no....they are selling drink and coffee/tea.Everytime I there for my breakfast. I will head to this stall.For 70cents you will have a small cup and for 80cents you have a big cup just like the one you get in coffee shop.The quality of the coffee and fight with those you find in Toastbox,Ya Kun or Killney Kopitiam.You can smell the aroma of the coffee once the coffee is serve. they add just nice the condensed milk and evaporated milk also which make the coffee taste nice.As for the steam bread, they should use a thicker bread for it. So it won't make bread taste like waterly.Overall: Good Coffee for a place like this, you must try it ..........
