Brought a couple of the traditonal pastry which resemble like a cone with the pastry cream in it and the coconut tart. The pastry with look like a cone with pastry cream in it is seldom found in pastry shop nowaday. With a crispy pastry skin, light buttery taste and the mild sweet pastry cream in it. As for the coconut tart, it has a nice golden brown colour on the top, but taste a bit dry and contain the desicated coconut in the tart itself and sweetness wise is not too sweet. continue reading

I was surprised to find this stall tucked in a corner of the market near where all the fruits stall are. I went closer to see what they are selling and realised they have pastries as well as buns. The custard bun caught my eye and I decided to get five of them home for the five of us at home. The next morning when I ate it, the bun is still very soft and I was pleasantly surprised at the generous amount of custard filling inside the bun! As this bun is shaped like a caterpillar, the front end of the bun has very little filling but the back of the bun is full of the filling as you can see in the photo. The custard is not those flowy kinds so you won't risk the custard flowing into the plastic bag when you are eating it. The custard is also not too sweet so overall, it is very delicious. I will recommend this if you love custard stuff! continue reading

My dad got this snack for us from this famous stall in Chinatown. Besides selling this, it also sells custard buns at 1 for $1, which are also one of its more famous creations. Actually, I don't really know the exact name of this snack, but is shaped with a mooncake mould and it is actually just a plain biscuit, instead of having salty mung bean fillings in the center. The biscuit with salty mung bean as fillings go for $3 per pack for 5 biscuits. These cost $2. It was my first time trying it and I have to say, perhaps those younger people like me will not really appreciate it - but my mother finds it very reminiscent of old days, where they also used to eat such bisuits. For me, it is just average - though it does get better once you get used to the taste - and I would prefer my dad getting the ones with fillings next time around. continue reading
