Hidden in this area of Cairnhill, I would have never come to this place if it were not for seeing friends on facebook mentioning it.The chicken karaage is crispy on the outside and juicy/tender when taken a bite.Tamago , sweet layers of grilled eggs compiled together creates a soft and fluffy texture. The salmon sashimi had generous slices and really fresh and velvety.Spicy miso soup base for the shabu shabu is very appetizing and flavourful. Thin perfect slices of almost opaque assorted pork cooks easily in it. It was very tender and succulent.Overall a great Japanese dining experience and would come back again when occasion meets craving. continue reading

For full review, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2013/03/eno-oka-japanese-restaurant.htmlEno Oka Japanese Restaurant quietly stands between shophouses along Cairnhill Road. Not unless you heard about them, or stays nearby, the chance of others passing by is quite rare. Shop space is pretty small and narrow, but still comfortable. Crew are foreigners, but not Japanese. Their service is commendable, though the serving of the food is pretty slow, especially when there wasn't much of a crowd in there. Ordered vegetable tempura for $8.00, and ikageso nanban (fried squid tentacles) for $6.00. Both are average rated.Mains we had chicken katsu set for $10. Pork cutlet cut up, and sliced cabbage as base. Juicy but not very crispy. Also had tonkotsu ramen for $11. The scent of the soup came rushing to my nostrils the moment it was brought near to me. Tempting to me, but noodles are like maggie mee. Soup base is simply the highlight of the ramen due to long hours of preparation. We didn't had it, but the signature dish is actually their shabu shabu. It's pretty expensive, so we gave it a miss, as there's only two of us. Crew recommended us to give it a go the next time we visit them. continue reading

As part of a get together Chinese new year gathering with my friends, I recommended this cozy place for some Chinese new year mood, steamboat style that is. We had ourselves some pork belly sukiyaki. Their sauces are placed on your table, using any amount to your own discretion. The peanut sauce was what I liked most as it was the most flavourful. The soup was surprisingly a little dull but very authentic. continue reading

Spicy Miso ramen ($12)The soup is very miso taste but a bit oily and salty. Not enough flavour and crunchy. The ramen is just so so, a bit soggy also. I like the half cooked hard boiled salty duck egg the most, fragrant and soft. Vanilla ice creamNormal vanillla flavour ice cream. continue reading
