Authentic Northern China food served here, Lao Beijing was actually part of Tung Lok group while their layout catered more towards big group of customers. Extensive decent homely cuisines in their Menu, dishes were definitely suitable for elderly even children. Buffet was now available, but required minimum two headcount. Since there were too many regulations to follow if buffet taken, we rather ordered ala carte finally.Well, this was the first dish. Sweet and spicy without overpowering, gravy was starchy for my liking. Prawns were fresh, firmly tender meat after peeling off its shell. Flavourful soaked in, prawn was finger licking good. Lettuce as dressing, it was hidden at the bottom unfortunately.Quite a safer option, at least it won our heart. Spoonful rice was fluffy and well-fried, lightly tangy with lots of crispy dried tiny shrimps on top. Maybe I would not say it was fantastic, yet rice was really delicious. Generous portion, the plate was filling and satisfying.Fragrance was okay, but the texture was too mushy. Too bad, I prefer chunkier slices. However, it was absolutely a comforting dish for my grandma. Soft and not too salty, the size was just nice to bite. Cucumber was refreshing too, little spicy enhance appetite.Pork lover will be fancy about this, ribs was wrapped by thick meat. One of the signature cuisines here, Recipe was a secret. Strong aromatic savoury, it was perfect to eat along with rice. Texture was good without overcooked, not too hard and easy to bite. Lao Beijing was a good choice for family dining always, promise. continue reading

We were here to celebrate father's day and order the standard 6 pax set menu. My favorite dishes among all is definitely the sweet & sour prawns with boiled bok choy. The prawns uses for this dish is very fresh and crunchy. It is cooked perfectly and not overcooked to make it chewy. The sauce makes this dish very addictive as it is sweet and sour yet at the same time, a little spicy and it goes very well with plain rice! continue reading

I must say Lao Beijing never fails to disappoint me in terms of food quality-- humble chinese food that is cooked well. Even for their buffet, quality remains. =) We ordered so many dishes because it was ala-carte buffet and I was unable to capture the pictures of all dishes, but I will highlight to you what's good in the menu. And oh btw, its only $18.80 ++I was very happy to find one of my favourite Chinese appetizer on the menu - beancurd skin! However, the one here wasn't tasty and was too oily. They had other appetizers such as pickled cucumbers, braised peanuts and garlic pork. The noodles came in small portions so its a good size to keep your stomach for the huge variety of food. I really liked the spinach tofu because the tofu was very soft and the fried part outside was not dry at all. The other highly recommended dish will be the prawn paste chicken. It was very crispy and didn't felt oily, and you could really taste the aroma of the prawn paste, not like some other places which taste more like fried wings. A must-order if you go I say! And don't miss the soupy Xiao Long Bao too! Other lovely dishes was the fried fish fillet and braised eggplant. One of the signature dishes of Lao Bei Jing is their DIY Popiah. They actually sell them as a set and for buffet, they limit it to one set per 4 person. The popiah skin was very soft (most tore when we tried to separate them) and came with many ingredients for you to customise your own. For instance, if you don't eat certain ingredients like beansprouts of garlic then you will love the flexibility to make your own. The turnips was also well braised and dry, with large pieces of beancurd in them.Lastly, the desserts were only limited to 3 choices - mango sago, sesame paste and ice cream puff. I would say skip the last.Overall a very value-for-money place with decent food and good service. Thumbs up!For more yummy reviews, visit kopidiem.wordpress.com. continue reading

Dumpling dumpling Lao Beijing best place to go to if you have craving for assorted, steam, fried, soup, etc dumplingsCame for their lunch buffet, at only $13.80++ you get to eat as many as you like; wide varieties, most of their food is fresh and tasty.Overall all the dumplings are very well made; skin is thin, fillings are succulent and flavorful. Recommend the xiao long bao, it's a must have when you visit; that's what made me come back over and over again for. continue reading

This is one of my favourite dish at Lao Beijing chinese restaurant. The dumpling skin is not too thick in texture and the base on the dumpling has been pan fried till nice golden brown which make it really crispy and fragrant. The generous amount of juicy tender pork meat and the fresh spring onions in it taste really yummy and goes really well with the dumpling skins. If you eat these dumplings with their special made thinly slice gingers with vineagar, the taste is even better as well. continue reading
