Signature Dishes
Went to this place for a quick bite before a movie and it was relatively quick. As there wasn't much dining crowd, I didn't have to wait too long before the food was served.Located at the floor of Shaw Theatre, one would be able to watch all the trailers on the big projector screen.Ordered a Carbonara pasta and a Apple Chicken Walnut salad. I like the refreshing mix of apples and walnut together with some sautéed chicken slices. The pasta, on the other hand, was actually quite creamy so it felt kinda gelat halfway through. But there was a generous serving of crispy bacon along with the pasta, adding on an addictive crunch to it.Overall, I find the food quality here pretty much satisfying yet being reasonably-priced. But surprisingly it was relatively deserted on a Sunday evening

After my bad dining experience here with the Pesto Pasta, I decided to give this place another shot since it's actually a pretty conducive environment where I can have a nice quiet and relaxing lunch on a weekday. =] Luckily the food turned out to be pretty good this time round.There is something I really enjoy about Ice Shaken Lemon Tea - the shaking produces this layer of foam at the top and gives it a nice homemade taste. I also like how it is not that sweet and has a deep English tea taste to it, not at all like other ice lemon teas which just taste like sugar water.The Spaghetti Carbonara ($13.50) has a "chef's icon" next to it on the menu, flagging it as one of their signature dishes here, so I decided to give it a try. It comes with a poached egg that is perfectly runny when you pierce into it with a fork. They also use good parmesan cheese for the pasta sauce which doesn't make it overly salty like other cheeses. I actually quite enjoyed the fact that the sauce was a little bit grainy and clumpy (probably due to the egg) because this gives it a very homely taste, even though the menu describes it as a "smooth cream sauce".If you like desserts, you should definitely try some of their Macarons which come in 6 different flavours - Rose, Chocolate Noir, Fleur De Sel Caramel (salted caramel), Feuilletine, Hazelnut, Cookies & Cream. A box of 6 assorted macarons cost $11.50 which would normally cost $2.50 per piece.You will definitely find me back here again when I need a peaceful place to have some quality comfort food and a sweet treat! Although the service here can be pretty nonchalant, it is perfect for times when you just want to be left alone to indulge in good food.

I went to Shaw Centre to collect my NTUC voucher from OpenRice and decided to pop by this place since I always see my friend raving about the macarons here!We had high tea set for 2, which includes two pots of tea, 2 macarons, 4 sandwiches and a slice of cake. Velvet Earl GreySmells better than it tastes. I guess I am not really an avid tea drinker.Can't appreciate such stuff. Tahiti Vanilla / Fleur De Sel (which is basically Salted Caramel)I love them because they are not very sweet! Shall try other flavours next time!Mango ShortcakeSoft and fluffy and I think it's pretty good. Egg Mayo SandwichesWhich was freaking yummy even though it's just egg and mayoooo. (Y)Overall, I feel that the high tea set was pretty okay, priced at $25 for 2 people and also, the ambience of the restaurant was great!

The FoodI ordered the Signature Macarons with Hazelnut & Fleur De Sel flavour, Le Chocolat Croustillant (Crispy Chocolate Cake) .This cake melted softly in my mouth leaving behind very strong and pleasant dark chocolate and hazelnut taste. As for the Hazelnut Macarons, this is Canele’s signature creation which consists of butter cream with hazelnut praline & toasted hazelnuts. Love the hazelnut bits to bits (pun intended)! The hazelnut taste was strong but pleasant and it helps that the macaron shell is hazelnut flavoured.The ServiceThe service is good and quick as the waitress were friendly and smiling at me. I waited for few minutes until the food were served to me.The AmbienceThe ambience is cosy and quiet and very nice for chilling out with friends.The PriceThe Macarons priced at $2.50 each and Le Chocolat Croustillant at $8 each are reasonably pricedOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this restaurant! I really had a wonderful time and satisfied experience of the food and place !!
