Unfortunately the cheapest pork porridge around this area is no longer valid, its $3 now instead of $2.50, additional ingredients option for another dollar and additional egg for 50 cents. As usual i opted for the combo of everything so that sets me back at $4.50. Then i also ordered some side dishes from the curry rice section, curry chicken, pork chop and cabbage. Love the laid back coffeehouse style environment. continue reading

The FoodI ordered the pork porridge with sliced lean meat, minced meatballs and pig liver. The big minced pork balls were juicy, soft and very well marinated. The liver slices were fresh, soft and perfectly blanched texture. The porridge was very flavoursome with watery, smooth and thick texture and the minced meat balls are very well-marinated with a delightful tinge of pepper. The PriceReasonably priced at $2.50 (add $0.50 for egg) OverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading

Just a couple of steps from my place is a popular Hainanese Curry Rice at Upper Serangoon Road. This rustic eating house only opens at 6pm daily. The first thing that caught my eyes was the steamed Minced Pork Patty that was shaped into a huge ball shape. The patty was nicely marinated with a springy texture. The Sotong was a bit overcooked. It did not have the firm and springy texture. The sauce was also too sweet for me. I would prefer it to be on the spicy side. The Curry Chicken was not up to my mark. I find it too bland and watery. It was not spicy at all.The Cabbage was soft and stewed perfectly retaining the sweetness of the Cabbage. The thinnly sliced bread crumbed Pork Chop was a bit dry and tough. Overall I find this place is a bit overrated but then it is still very popular with people staying nearby. A queue can always be seen at the eating house. By the way, the congee here is pretty good. continue reading

A bowl of pork porridge from Sin Chie Toke Huan costs $2.50 (add $0.50 for egg) and comes with sliced lean meat, minced meat balls and pig liver. Remarkably soft and silky in consistency, the piping hot porridge is fragrant and flavorful. The minced meat balls are very well-marinated with a delightful tinge of pepper. The key to an outstanding porridge lies in two factors: its textile and its taste. But although it sounds simple, many porridge that I have tried seem to get one or the other wrong. Sin Chie Toke Huan has got both right, hence this is one porridge that you must definitely try. continue reading
