i actually thougt this supposed to be a lao zi hao but i was disappointed with this tasting. Ordered the char siew seo bak combination. I was served a few slices of fairly fatty seo bak and char siew. Did not really appeal to me, just a litle overwhelm but the fatty meat. i had assume that if nothing was mentioned, usually lean portion would be given. but this case i found what i served was a little over. Will not come back again continue reading

I saw other reviewer recommended Roasted Pork Rice, so I went there again for a try.I ordered Roasted Pork and again Char Siew, because the Char Siew was yummy with sweet skin and fatty meat inside. The Roasted Pork was the star of this star. The skin was crispy with a hint of saltiness. There was quite a thick layer of fats in between the skin and the meat. The fats melts in your mouth. The meat was salty though, a bit tough at the end. continue reading

I read about this stall on the newspaper so i made my way there to try with great anticipation. I was there after lunch so there is no queue. I ordered a quarter of the roasted duck with roasted and char siew. I tried also their winter melon with pork ribs soup. I got to agree all their 3 types of roasted meats were very well done. If i got to choose, my favourite has to be the roasted meat. The crispiness of the top layer coupled with the tenderness of its meat at the right level of saltiness to give it the full flavor. Strongly recommended. continue reading

Tucked in a hidden little corner of a neighbourhood Kopitiam, Kim Heng serves out perhaps one of the best roast meats around. It's located opposite the Serangoon Swimming Complex/Serangoon Stadium. ST proclaims this stall as the Best All Rounder in roast meats and I am inclined to agree. I visited the stall one weekday afternoon at around 2pm and there were no queues in sight. Having decided to test the "Best All Rounder" claim, I ordered a plate of mixed meat rice- a portion of roasted duck, roasted pork, char siew and rice enough for one person for just $5.50. Within minutes, my order was quickly served. The roasted duck meat was not at all tough or dry but was tender and succulent. The meat was well flavoured and the duck skin retained a little crispiness. I was very impressed by the roasted pork especially its crunchy skin. The roasted pork skin layer had been roasted to a nice crispy perfection- a quality that is so elusive in many other roasted meat joints. There was definitely a satisfying crunch with every bite! The pork meat indeed had a lingering salty taste from its seasoning but the meat itself was not dry. The char siew was also really good- it was incredibly well marinated and juicy. The sides of each char siew slice were slightly charred which gave the char siew a nice subtle smokey taste.I had the meats without any additional chili sauce or condiments and I really feel the meats taste so good on their own that adding any condiments might mar their taste. This probably just shows how good, well marinated and flavourful the roast meats are!If I had to pick a bad point, I just wished they could be more generous with the cucumber slices. Other than that I was really highly satisfied with my plate of roast meat rice! continue reading

This stall has been recently been featured on the newspaper. And, this stall has been recommended as an all rounder amongst a few others to be specialised in the Char Siew, Roasted Pork as well as the Roasted Duck. I came with great expectation. This humble stall is hidden at a corner of a coffee shop facing the main road, directly opposite the Serangoon Stadium and just a stone's throw away from Nex. I was there slightly after 2pm so no queue spotted. I ordered a plate of Roasted Pork rice together with Char Siew for 2 pax and a quarter of Roasted Duck. I wanted to order the Sze Chuan Vegetable soup to go along but was told most of their double boiled soups have already sold out. I was given only 2 choices for soup and amongst them, i picked the Winter Melon with Pork Ribs soup.Though there is a 'Self Service' sign on display but i was asked to take a seat. The foods were served in 5 minutes. We paid a total of $20.50 for everything. My favourite has to be the Roasted Meat. The first taste of their Roasted Meat has gotten me to agree that this has to be one of the best tasting Roasted Meat in Singapore. It is as good if not close to the real thing that i had eaten during my Hong Kong trips. The meat was well seasoned to left a lingering saltiness after eaten it. It was also roasted well to give the skin a nice crispy layer. They chopped the meat in rather big pieces just the way i liked it. I would suggest to eat it without the chilli sauce provided to enjoy the succulent taste. I feel no word is good enough to describe the deliciousness of their Roasted Meat, you will have to taste it yourself to know its goodness. The Roasted Duck is my next favourite. The duck was seasoned well and roasted perfectly to give it the full flavor. A good job was done to ensure the skin to maintain its crispiness. It definitely tasted close to those that i had eaten in Hong Kong. Again, i would suggest to skip the plum sauce that served together with the duck as it tasted really good on its own. The Char Siew was pretty well-done too. The Char Siew was half lean and half fat to give it the excellent bouncy texture. The meat was nicely caramelised on the outer layer to give it a nice smokiness. Though the Winter Melon with Pork Ribs soup was a good addition but it tasted just fine. Strongly recommended. continue reading
