There are so many dinning choices in Hougang mall, it is definitely spoilt by choice. Dinning alone on that evening, I just wanted to have something simple and quick. Check out the Kopitam, there were not so crowded. Walked towards my favourite stall, Pu Tien Heng Hua, there were few people standing around this stall. Compare to other stalls, they looked quiet. It seems this stall is getting popular. Follow the queue, the lady who took the orders was fast, she would remember our orders and collected money at the same time. There is/are someone inside doing all the cooking. This was my second patrons, I didn’t come to this area about 2 years already. I love their fry thin noodle, it was one of the best I have tried some 2 years ago. This round I ordered fry bee hoon, comparatively, it wasn’t soupy like fry thin noodle, probably bee hoon absorbs too much soup, it will become soggy, it will affect the texture. Taste wise, it was light, prawns was naturally sweet, clam was tasteless. It wasn’t too oily though. I didn’t taste any MSG. That is what I like the most, after the meal, it won’t feel any quilt on having too much oil, salt and MSG. Sure, I will go back if I am around that area for a meal. continue reading

Whenever I come to hougang mall to have a meal, I will definitely visit this stall. It sells very afforadable hing hwa style dishes at food court prices! These items can also be found in Putien restaurants but at a higher cost. I decided to order their signature fried noodles- fried mian xian. You can have a choice between fried bee hoon, fried mian xian and fried noodles. The only difference between the noodles is the thickness, bee hoon being the thinnest and noodles being the thickest. As you can see in the picture, they do not scrimp on ingredients- you have clams, prawns, pork slices and plenty of vegetables. The savoury sauce that it is fried in is really aromatic and gets absorbed by the noodles. This is a very delicious dish indeed! The only downside is that this stall may get crowded during meal times with many people placing orders, so you might have to wait a little longer. continue reading

As a starter, we had braised pig intestine. To me, it looked pretty disgusting. I tasted one of it, not too bad but seriously, i'd rather not have it in future. For people who take this, it's worth a try! Fragrant and well marinated. As for main dish, we had fried "Hing wa" bee hoon. I find it a tad too dry. Other than that, it's pretty nice. The clams are sweet and fresh. continue reading
