The coffee is burnt. They used a lot of sugar to mask the taste. The signature Ipoh Hor Fun has strong fishy smell maybe from the used of prawn shell as the soup base. The prawn in the Hor Fun was not fresh and tasted very soft. The overall experience is very disappointing. continue reading

We were all late for lunch and Ipoh Delicacies remains us of its skinny Kway Tiao Kia aka Ipoh Hor Fun as we passed by Shan Cheng in Bedok Point. Since having lunch at such odd hours, as expected, there were only a few people dining in their restaurant. Dining area was semi open concept splitting the shopping walkways with the restaurant by a mid-height partition and one can enjoy the live demonstration of the kitchen easily. We paid $0.60 for a cup of Teh O as it was considered as a set meal beverages topped up whereas the cup of Lemon Honey was not entitled for a meal promotion. Hence, we paid a full price at $1.30.Our bowls of Hor Fun came one at a time with the sides of the bowl greased by the oil used. Char Siew Hor Fun looked pretty normal with its fatty and tender portion of meat with a piece of crispy fried Tau Ki (Bean Curd Skin) on top. Presentation was not quite ideal with the dark sauce spattered by the sides of the bowl.Like the bowl of Char Siew Hor Fun, the shredded chicken hor fun was cut into portions filled with dark sauce. Hor Fun was lumped together and not sweet as I had expected. Ingredients like prawns were added to the bowl of Chicken Hor Fun too.Cost: $6.00The preparation of Chicken tasted plain and simple with not much condiments added.Cost: $6.00Overall, I find that the bowl of Hor Fun was pricy and nothing special. continue reading

Char Siew noodle (dry) - The noodle mixed well with the black sauce. One thing about this version compared to the Singaporean version is the colour. While this uses dark sauce, noodle feels springy not overcooked. The Char Siew does not looks dry and I was given the slightly fatty portion. Yummy.Ipoh Hor Fun (soup) - This version has mince meat, anchovies and fishball added. When you mixed all together some how the taste blends with each other. But the soup a little oily though.Honey Lemon - After everything just washed down with the honey lemon to cool down. Can taste the honey while the lemon isn't to overly strong. continue reading

If you are missing the taste of Ipoh, you can try this cafe in Bedok Point. The food is decent and it serve Ipoh Coffee and Tea, but I find the hot tea and Coffee tastes like 3 in 1. The set meal it comes with a drink.Ginger Duck Rice.I like the Ginger Duck which comes with lots of ginger and generous with the gravy. It is served with steam rice. The dish is tasty but too oily. It cost $6.70 for the meal.Char Siew Noodle. The Noodle is dry wanton noodle with black sauce similar to what you get in KL. The noodle is cooked al dente and has slices of Char Siew and a crispy beancurd skin. The Beancurd Skin gives a crunchy texture to the dish. It cost $5.5o as a meal which has a choice of hot tea or coffee.Curry Noodle. The Curry Noodle is spicy but gravy not that thick. It comes with fish cake and Yong Tau Foo. This set cost $5.50. Their Dry Curry and Curry. You can opt for non curry version which also comes with dry or soup.Yong Tau Foo.We order another portion of mixed Yong Tau Foo to try. It comes with fish paste stuffed in red and green chilli, bitter guard , tofu and fish balls. The taste is normal and nothing special. The food is ok but nothing fantastic. continue reading
