Mad for Garlic is Korea’s first garlic-themed Italian restaurant. The unique concept made its debut in 2001 through Mad for Garlic’s first restaurant in Apgujeong-dong, an affluent entertainment and residential district in southern Seoul. For pictures and full review, pls visit:http://madamechewy.com/2014/05/08/mad-for-garlic/A couple of months back, Hubby and I checked out Mad for Garlic at Clarke Quay. Hubby is a fan of garlic and when I noticed the Groupon deal, I bought it in a snap ($17.50 for $40 worth of food).Originating from Korea, Mad for Garlic is a garlic-themed restaurant dishing out Italian fare. The Clarke Quay branch also boasts a full service bar and an extensive selection of wines. Apart from the restaurant, you can choose to dine alfresco too.I have an unabashed love affair for mussels, especially when they are doused in tomato-based sauce. My eye zoomed at the Sautéed Fresh Mussels in chunky tomato sauce and coarsely chopped garlic ($32.40). Alternatively, you can have it cooked in garlic cream sauce. It was yummy and certainly very fresh, but could have been better if some chilli was included to add another dimension to the flavour. I ordered white bread ($3) to mop up every single drop of the delicious garlic tomato sauce. Dracula will not stand a chance with my breath, haha!Hubby’s Clam and Seafood Pasta ($23.50) with white wine sauce. It comes with prawns but because Hubby has prawn allergy, we requested for clams and squid instead. While the springy pasta was commendable, the broth was mediocre- garlic and white wine flavours were not prominent enough.Would have love to try their signature Garlic Berry and Ice cream, but alas we ran out of time. What a pity. continue reading

was back to mad for garlic for their mains and drink. I ordered white wine (the one in orange) which taste good. the alcoholic taste isn't very strong and it isn't too sweet too.For my main i have garlic carbonara which was a bit too creamy to my liking. and also the garlic smell is a little too strong.overallm the dish is average, would order something else in future. The service of the staffs is still very good, friendly and attentive. And lastly i love the ambience there and thats the main reason why i am back to dine in here! continue reading

I heard about Mad for Garlic from a friend and decided to drop by for a visit. I was not a garlic fan but rather intriqued after my friend kept raving about the restaurant.Anyway once there, i looked at the menu and despite its moniker, i wasnt really expecting much. Guess i am in for a surprise. They had funny names for some of their dishes. Take for example the followingracula Killer ($15.80). This is essentially garlic bread but i guess naming it garlic bread is too mainstream so they came up with this. Anyway i really liked this though its price is a little steep in my opinion. The bread is so soft, and when paired with the garlic which has been cooked with olive oil and anchovies, its just perfect. Like you dont think you were eating garlic. I also got the Garlic Snowing Pizza ($22.50). Quite aptly named since the waiter/waitress serving it would actually shave the garlic in front of you after serving the pizza itself. Again another pleasant treat. The thin crust pizza is dotted with pineapple which add to the sweetness of the pizza. The garlic wasn't too strong either.Overall i like the food but i wouldnt see myself returning for a second visit anytime soon. continue reading

its my first visit here after hearing quite a number of reviews about this place. First impression when u walk in, you will feel more like its a chill-out place with its large bar counter and large LCD screen TVs. Using more of a orange ambient lighting, the place sets diners back a smoothing atmosphere. The place is decorated with lots of garlic wraps and wine bottles at the side as well. Seating wise mostly for 4s, with both couch seats and standalone round and square tables both available. Kitchen is not semi open but yu do get to see the heads of the busy chefs. Back to the food, ordered gorgonzola cream pasta and chilli curry chicken pizza. The pasta is creamy potato with gorgonzola cheese served with scallop and grilled king oyster mushroom. Like the creamy base and the accompany ingredients. The addition of garlic on the pasta is a nice touch also but it did not wow me. Was hoping for more since its name is "mad for garlic" The pizza is a little to the spicy side though, it could have been better if its not. Total of 8 slices. Chicken meat is found on every slice and shredded cheese is evenly spread.. pasta cost $24.90 and pizza $19.90 before gst and svc charge. plain water is foc. continue reading

Mad for Garlic frequently has promotions for its members, and for the upcoming outlet at suntec city, there is a free pizza for every main course ordered. I was at Clarke Quay and decided to drop by for its pizza. As it was a recommended dish, I tried the Grilled Pizza topped with bacon slices and mushrooms ($19.90++). It was a pretty average pizza, not particularly memorable, probably should try its signature Garlic Snowing Pizza ($19.90++) the next time round. continue reading
