Lil Papa's is about a 5-10 minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT station. It's tucked away in a corner of Block 7, Tanjong Pagar Plaza and yeah, it's pretty cosy! The selection of all sorts of rare beer was what caught my attention at first. Seriously wish I could try them all! Settled for the Toffee Apple Cider in the end. It was really sweet - exactly how I like my alcohol! As for the hotdogs, there were many kinds to choose from, but I ordered the Sambal Sin Wiener in the end. With the spicy Italian sausage I chose, plus the super-shiok-darn-spicy sambal sauce and small chunks of pineapple, it was a chilli combo that was simply unbeatable. Absolutely delish! continue reading

My hubby and I were really fortunate enough to be invited by the Openrice team to their food tasting session at Lil Papa's Wieners Beerstro. We arrived by 7.45pm and were greeted by Mr. Kenneth of Openrice, who was a nice and friendly guy. We were then taken in and seated at our table. We were quite amazed by the cool ambiance and the wide display of beers and names that some of the beers have will set you laughing in a jiffy. . We were then served starters of yummy chips both spicy and non spicy which were great with the lemonade and Cherry Coke that refreshed us and set our spirits high. The waiter then bought the main starter of Crunchy Pesto Bruschetta which is sliced Artisan Bread layered with pesto and cheese and contains garlic, basil, olive oil, cheese, cherry tomatoes and bell pepper, they were very tasty and so cheesy that we finished them off in no time.We were then introduced to the man behind the success of Lil Papa's Wieners Beerstro, Mr. Fabio de Souza who was nice, jolly and cool guy and told us all about his success and what a big fanatic he himself is of Beers and Hot dogs. He also mingled well with the customers and went out of his way to see to the needs and comforts of his guests. Then came the main course that we had been waiting for Hot dogs and Craft Beers. We had a choice of Hot dogs and we had to choose from the 3, namely1. LIL PAPA'S FAV WIENER (not spicy) - roasted mustard pork, with home styled baked beans topped with onions and curry powder.2. SINCAGO WIENER (spicy) - Tomato & Beef, topped with mild American mustard, chopped white onions, sweet hotdog relish, sliced pickles, green hot peppers, cherry tomatoes and a dash of celery salt.3. SAMBAL SIN WIENER (very spicy) - spicy chicken, with traditional SAMBAL sauce with red onions, sliced pineapples, sesame seeds and cilantro.I was almost drooling reading the menu and then made my selection of LIL PAPA'S FAV WIENER (not spicy) - roasted mustard pork while my hubby chose SINCAGO WIENER (spicy) - Tomato & Beef. We didn't have to wait long as our hotdogs arrived nice and hot and were really huge and very tasty and done to perfection. They were irresistible and I also managed to sample a piece of the hotdog that hubby had ordered and that too was really yummy and the sausages are quite big too. Our friend had ordered the SAMBAL SIN WIENER (very spicy) - spicy chicken and it was very kind of him to allow us to sample some of it. It was really spicy and delicious as the same time. We sipped our Craft beers which went really well with our food. Do you know LIL PAPA's WIENER BEERSTRO has over 50 different types of Beers and serves 15 different types of HOTDOGS???After we had eaten, we were served Toffee Apple Cider along with a huge bowl of Naked Sausages: Hot & Spicy Italian Sausages (PORK) & Beer Bratwurst (PORK) over curry ketchup, sauerkraut, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, sliced pickles and pineapple. Although I was full, I just couldn't resist this delightful temptation and I soon found myself munching on the yummy sausages and sipping the Toffee Apple Cider which was just so tasty. Soon the event came to an end and I had truly enjoyed myself that day. Thanks to the owner of LIL PAPA'S Wiener Beerstro for the amazing treat. More than anything else I was happy to meet the loveable, simple and down to earth staff of Openrice, who were in smiles all the time despite the fact that they looked very tired. They mingled well with the openricers and got to know each them individually. They are really dedicated and very nice people!!Thank You Openrice for the invite and hope to see you all again soon. Thank You LIL PAPA's WIENER BEERSTRO for the lovely evening. continue reading

Lil Papa’s Wieners Beerstro, Tanjong Pagar PlazaTanjong Pagar, Singapore11 October 2012Merlion Wayfarer was recently invited to a food-tasting session by Open Rice and Lil Papa’s Wieners Beerstro (Thank you, guys!). The venue was an outlet right smack in the midst of some HDB blocks located within walking distance of the business district. The AppetizersWe were given the choice of a "lemonade" or "Cherry Coke" to go with our appetizer. Being swah-koo ("mountain tortoise") to not have actually seen a Cherry Coke, Merlion Wayfarer opted for the Cherry Coke. Served in a beer glass (there are scores of different beer glasses here!), it was manufacturer in UK. Cool hor! This is Bruschetta…For those of us who are less knowledgeable about Italian food (e.g. Merlion Wayfarer who only knows spaghetti and pizza but who's always willing to learn new romantic-sounding Italian food names!), Bruschetta (Italian pronunciation: ) is an antipasto from Italy whose origin dates to at least the 15th century. It consists of toasted bread rubbed with garlic and topped with extra-virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. Variations may include toppings of spicy red pepper, tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese. Bruschetta is usually served as a snack or appetizer.(Wikipedia 2012).Ok, cherry tomato, green pepper with some cai you (菜油, vegetable oil) on some pengkang roti. But hey! It tastes good... quite addictive, in fact. One no enough, definitely starts one eating! We were then given some chips to keep our gastric juices pumping while we finish our drinks and await the sausages and the beer...Main Course #1We were offered three choices:Non-spicySpicySuper spicyLil Papa's Fav Wiener consisted of homestyled baked beans, mayonnaise, onions and seaweed. The "Elephant Beer" (ooops, ale) is beside the hot dog...Sincago Wiener consised of relish, chopped onions, tomatos, pickle spear, American mustard, green pepers and celery salt... Sambal Sin Wiener consisted of sambal sauce, onions, sesame seeds and cilantro...全家福 family photo...The sour ale which Merlion Wayfarer liked. It was like a Ribena beer with its strong fruity taste...Main Course #2The generous sausage platter with a sprinkle of grated cheese. Sausages were succulent and grilled to yumminess...We were given another drink to top it off. Many of us liked the Toffee Apple Cider’s sweet caramel taste…The benefits of beer - Hey it is true! One of us foodtasters started getting forgetful after all the alcohol. *Burp!* continue reading

I was one of the lucky Openricers who got a chance to be part of the ORTU at Lil Papa's Wieners Beerstro. We reached there by 8 PM & were welcomed by the warm & friendly Open Rice team. We had a brief photo session & we were introduced to other Openricers & were served spicy & salted chips along with lemonade or Cherry coke. We were later introduced to the Man behind the Beerstro, the owner who told us about the different types of beers he has, which are usually not available accross the counter & the pairing of beers with the 3 types of Weiners offered to us. ~ Lil Papa's Fav Wiener (Non spicy), Sincago Wiener (spicy) & Sambal Sin Wiener (very spicy). Lil Papa's mascot is something that cannot miss your eye & is actually a cartoon representation to the owner's grand father.I chose a Sincago Weiner which was a tomato beef sausage hot dog with Mild american mustard, chopped white onions, pickles, green hot peppers & cherry tomatoes. It was served with dark craft beer ( I don't remember the name). The pairing was great. The flavours of the hot dog were yummy. The sausage, mustard sauce, peppers, pickles....was simply the BEST. The beer too had a distinct flavour. It was strong & bitter but pleasant. We were stuffed after the Beer & hot dogs, not realising the party wasn't over yet . Then came the Sausage platter with assorted sausages topped with some Sauerkraut. The platter was paired with Apple Toffee Cider. Though I was full,I binged on the yummy saucy sausages till I could eat no more. The Sauerkraut (sour cabbage) tasted like the typical sauerkraut you get at German restaurants & was perfect. We ended our meal with a glass of Toffee Apple Cider which had a lovely toffee flavour & a mild apply fragrance. It was fizzy, sweet & refreshing, after a filling meal.It was a perfect evening with excellent food/drinks & perfect company. Thanks to the Openrice team & off course Lil papa's Wieners Beerstro. Cheers!!!! continue reading

Mrupupup attended Lil Papa's Wieners Beerstro tasting session. Very good experience! Lil Papa's Wieners sells hotdogs and special beers & ciders. The place is located at Blk 7 Tanjong Pagar Plaza #01-108 (near Tanjong Pagar MRT). Really great fun attending this tasting session. Mrupupup got to try the special gourmet hotdogs known as wieners which come in non-spicy, mild spicy (with mild mustard, beef and tomatoes) and very spicy flavours (meaning with sambal chili - spicy!). Hotdogs vary in price from between $7-$10. All very nice! Mrupupup had one Lil Papa's Fav Wiener (non-spicy) which comes with pork sausage, home style baked beans on top with onions and curry powder. Delicious hotdog and one is enough to make you full! The tasting group tried out the hotdogs with pairings of special beers, ale and cider. Mrupupup was excited to drink Cherry Coke too as a starter! Cherry Coke is not commonly found in Singapore. Our tasting group also heard from the owner: different types of 51 beers in the store, how he explained that the store's logo was actually inspired by his grandfather having a beer & hotdog and how he set up his special niche beer store in Tanjong Pagar. The day was relaxing and so fun! We also had a platter of sausages with the special toffee flavour cider and craft beer (very unique taste and nice!). The craft beers and ciders (kind of flavoured alcoholic drink) costs between $10- $20. Totally enjoyable and loved the nice & interesting conversations we had in the group. Guess beer tasting session kind of lightens up the spirits in the group. Thanks Open Rice Tasty Union and Lil Papa's Wierners Beerstro for the evening. Double thumbs up!
