I was at Food Republic having chicken rice for dinner one day when I saw 2 men sitting beside us with their plates of bee hoon and fried food. They were simple food and dishes but somehow looked so tempting, hence I told myself I had to come back soom to try out the food from this stall I came back for lunch another day and picked out which ever took my fancy. I chose to have the century egg, taiwan sausage and fried prawn. For the taiwan sausage and fried prawn, the cook deep-fried them in the hot oil for a few seconds before serving, so that what you get is nice, hot and crispy. I was afraid that the beehoon wouldn't be sufficient hence I got the bigger serving, which turned out to be a bit too much for me. The food was pretty good in general, and I'd definitely be back should the craving strike! continue reading

I must say the presentation of the wide variety of fried snacks really attracted me to order the from here even though I know it would have cost much more expansive as compared to eating at a market. True enough, 4 different dishes and bee hoon cost $6.10. Fried prawn $1.50, Fish Fillet $1.20, Fish Ball $0.40 Taiwan Sausage $1.50 and large bee hoon $1.50. I like it that the fried snacks are fried on the spot which makes them crispy yet not too oily. However, for the fried prawn, it comes with the prawn shell which I dislike. Yes, although, the whole fried prawn was covered with flour and went to fry, I think the shell should be removed first. The rest are all good. I especially love their chili sauce which is mixed with peanuts I think. The sweet sauce is tasteless. continue reading

My friends proposed to have our lunch at this food court as we can get to choose from a wide variety of food.We have ordered some Ngoh Hiang Prawn Cracker to share. We got us some fishcake, prawn cracker, ngoh hiang, and bean curd.It was really nice as it was freshly cooked, crispy and yet not oily at all. I love especally the prawn cracker! continue reading

The stuff here makes for guilty pleasure redefined.I know that practically everything sold at Ngoh Hiang stalls are really unhealthy. I mean, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? We can see that thin layer of oil glisten over every deep-fried item on display. No doubt, it can be a nightmare for any dieter. But when it comes to a stall like this, I say you put that diet aside, forget everything you know about calories and enjoy the finer things in life.I'm not too sure why, but i think it's the whole old chinese-themed setting of the food court that makes their Ngoh Hiang even more appealing. They have the usual ngoh hiang, cuttlefish, century egg, fishcake, you tiao, bean curd, fishball, prawn cracker, prawn roll, etc. Each item ranges from about $0.40 to about $1 plus. Most of the snacks here are done pretty well - fragrant, crisp and very tasty. The only downside is that certain ones are too oily for my liking and it doesn't help that the oil reminds you of how unhealthy the dish is.And of course, always keep a mental calculation as you pick the food items. The price adds up and if you're not careful, you might end up paying more than expected. continue reading
