There are not many stalls left in Singapore still selling a meal at hawker centres for $2.Here in Seah Im Food Centre, there is still a stall selling various local dishes at $2, despite nearby surroundings are high end resorts and shopping malls.I had ordered their Fried Kway Teow.Their Fried Kway Teow had the heavy "Wok" and sweet soya sauce aroma. The taste was quite good, the fried noodles and kway teow had "Wok" taste and sweet, salty sauce combination. It was not too oily though, just right. continue reading

Saw this stall that sells fried kway teow at $2 which attracted me with this low price. There isn’t any customer though. I hesitated a while before placing my order. The stall is owned by an elderly couple and the lady cooked the fried kway teow on the spot upon ordering. It took less than 3 minutes and my fried kway teow is ready.Had to admit I’m quite disappointed when the plate of fried kway teow was presented to me.It is really a small plate and the presentation of it isn’t very good.It was lucky I’m not too hungry that day so the small portion fills just right. The fried kway teow tastes not bad though. Just that the sauce is a little too sweet.Other than that, the black sauce flavouring is generous and made the fried kway teow tasteful. The ingredients isn’t a lot, and given the fact that its $2, it is still acceptable. Not a bad choice if you are not very hungry since it’s only $2 per plate. There is also the fried hokkien mee at the same price. continue reading

This stall was recommended by my friend which he said you can get a plate of carrot cake for $2.When i ordered from the lady boss she warned me that the $2 portion of her carrot cake is very little and asked whether i want to order the $3 portion instead.I opted for $2 as this is the first time i try on their food. The portion is indeed very little and it seems like $1.50 black carrot cake to me.However, the taste of the carrot cake is quite good as there's quite a lot of beaten egg and it is not bland because the lady boss go easy with the sweet sauce. continue reading

A really simple plate of fried kway teow mee but have the taste of mother's flavor in it. It was very simply fried with just egg and fishcake but very flavorful. I used to work in this area and have been eating lunch at this stall regularly. I still come back whenever i am in the vicinity to have a taste of such simple goodness. continue reading

This stall is manned by an old couple selling very economical fried kway teow mee, fried hokkien mee and fried carrot cake. But fried kway teow mee is the most popular order there. There is always a queue during the lunch and dinner time. This is a really simple dish, the kway teow and mee are only fried with egg and fishcake. No frills, and very old school. It reminded me of a particular stall selling the same dish in the canteen at my primary school. It tasted good enough, you do not need cockles or lup cheong to make it nicer. If you think the portion is not able to fill up your hungry stomach, you can ask for a $3.00 plate. More kway teow, more mee and more goodness. Next time, when you only have a $2.00 in your packet and not wanting to eat a double cheese burger then perhaps you can come over here to get yourself a delicious plate of fried kway teow mee. Trust me, you can literally taste the home feeling in it. continue reading
