Just have my lunch in this beautifully renovated Chinese restaurant in Orchard. The dining environment was cosy and spacious. Service was quite prompt and smily from most of the waitress. Had tried their fried rice, which portion was quite generous and fragrant. lots of diced char siew and scrambled eggs can be found inside, which make it very tasty. The prawn dumplings are fill with crunchy fresh prawns, however the dumpling's skins are too thick and hard in texture. The char siew bao has quite firm texture but still easy to chew. The char siew meat inside is juicy and tender... yummy! A meal at about $25 per person, is quite worth the price. continue reading

Canton-i, located on the upper levels of ion, is a casual Hong kong dining place. Such hong kong restaurants are famous for a number of things, and one of it is their roasted meat. I had the 2 mixed noodle, and chose roasted duck and char siew. Meat serving wise was quite small. Their duck skin is crispy, while the meat is tender and flavorful. The char siew however, is too fatty for my liking even though it seemed that char siew with considerable amount of fats is supposed to be better tasting. continue reading

Being a big bao fan, how can I allow myself not to eat at Canton-I? I have heard of their baos for the longest time. Finally had the chance to eat it. We just had to order the yummy 流沙包 ( custard/salted egg yolk bun)The skin is purple because they added taro to it. Salted yolk bun is not a salted yolk bun if the liquid yolk doesn't flow out of the bun! This one passed the test! Big serving!I love this chee chong fun. Couldn't finish this XO carrot cake..It's nice but oily :X You just have to eat this! The cutest piggy red bean bao! Service was okay. Food didn't take long to arrive. continue reading

We wanted to treat Grandma to a really good birthday meal this year, so my aunt suggested Canton-i, since old people normally like to eat pig and duck. FOODThis is their famous crispy suckling pig dish - we had the smallest size one, and it was solely for the pleasure of my grandma, so I didn't get to even smell it. But it was so damn good that she couldn't stop praising the chef. If you think the mini dish (about $25) is a little too small, you can always get the half-sized one, worth $98, or one whole suckling pig, worth $198, as shown in their menu. All three images above show the famous Peking duck (my favorite!) that got me drooling all over. I swear it's that good. I ate more than half of it, ignoring my family members; pardon me for being just a little bit selfish when it comes to excellent food. All of us were going for the mushroom in this dish. It was gone in 5 mins! Lol.Wintermelon soup, something I'll never get sick of This fish was quite average, nothing too special to rave about it though. They didn't have the Double Boiled Fungus with Papaya and Almond dessert that we wanted, so we went for mango sago instead, which was equally good.SERVICEThe service was GREAT. They have very friendly staff who were polite and agreeable to requests such as dividing the soup into an extra bowl and having more sauce. One female staff even brought an abalone to my aunt just because she wanted to see what it looked like in tightly-sealed packaged form. Thumbs up. The bill was around $250, slightly expensive, but totally worth it if you ever want to treat yourself once a year. continue reading

Their fried rice with salted fish is heavenly. There are a few dishes to try out. Namely there chee cheong fan, egg tarts, char shao shao rou, siew mai. The service is good and place is ideal and conveniently located. A must try! continue reading
