The laksa soup base was very bland and it seemed as though they had forgotten to add in an ingredient. I tried adding chilli paste inside to no avail so they probably did not cook it well or it just tasted that way. It is priced at $4.50 and is reasonable but not worth it as the taste falls below standard. Perhaps this will suit the health-conscious more as I think they did not add much coconut milk in it. continue reading

Laksa set with coffee $4.50The laksa gravy was very bland. There was a clear lack of flavour especially the coconut taste and shrimp taste It was also not at all spicy. I'll not get this again.beef rendang briyani $7It was quite expensive for its portion and quality. The briyani did not have the fragrance and taste of it. There were only a few beef cubes. They were not tough and quite tender though. There was also a bit of preserved nonya vegetables at the side.Overall, it was quite a disappointment but the ambience made up for it. continue reading

Rumah Sayang is one of the few eateries located at the basement in the recently-opened JEM. Focusing on serving southeast-asian fare, the decor of the eatery feels full of nostalgic fare with marble tables supported by wooden legs and wooden shades with mirrors encased, pretty much like the interiors of homes in the past. There are a variety of items available, but there was a running promotion for the Laksa ($3.00). While there are not much ingredients in the bowl which was somewhat reasonable for this price, the soup base was quite bland somehow as it did not contain much coconut milk to bring the signature Laksa taste to its fullest. The Roti Prata ($2.50 per piece) was probably the most disappointing of the lot. The curry was pretty flavoursome, but the Roti Prata failed to impress. It had a familiar taste that seemed to only exist with Roti Prata that came out of the freezer pack, which failed to convince us even more with it’s hefty price tag. continue reading

Cheap and fantastic food you can find at JEM. This would be the place where you can find very good food and yet affordable compared to the restaurant you go. They have various of sizzling wok dishes such as nonya fried rice, beef horfun and nasi pattaya. I tried their nasi pattaya and my wife had their nasi padang, they took food to a new level, the taste was spot on, unique and addictive as well. The nasi pattaya was spicy, flavourful and unique, I've never eaten such good nasi pattaya! My wife ordered the chicken called Ayam Merah, from the staff it's a little spicy with a tomato taste, yet again spot on! The ayam merah was not dry and the sauce was savoury! Would definitely go back to patronise them again , REAL GOOD FOOD! continue reading

I actually stood there for at least 5mins, thinking what should I order? It seems nothing in my mind when I saw the price and the food, it is really too local and if I am going to food court, I might get something similar but with cheaper price. Nevertheless, it was still crowded on the day we went.Laksa Set($5.50) - Laksa itself is $4.50, additional $1 for a tea, that is what I feel more worthwhile. The laksa tasted very unusual, not the normal santan one, I tasted sour, not sure is it nyonya style. I forgot to eat first only requested for more chili paste, see how much I had, so my laksa was quite spicy after additional chili.Nyonya Fried Rice($7.50) - If I am not wrong about the price, it is spicy but tasted quite good. I never try satay but my 2 friends said satay tasted average only. continue reading
