I ordered the BBQ chicken chop for lunch at MEGAbites Cafe the other day. It costs $4.90. The dish consists of a big piece of meat (sometimes two pieces if the size is small), a scoop of butter-flavoured rice, and plenty of boiled vegetables (usually cauliflower and carrot). The meat is tender and I quite like the sauce. The butter rice is tasty too but the portion is slight too little. continue reading

Megabites Cafe serves delicious Western food from spaghettis to chicken chop and cutlet to steak. I love having their fish and chips or chicken cutlet every time I am there. The fish and chips set comes with boiled vegetables, rice, fries and a soup of the day for $4.90, which is a very reasonable price, given the amount of food served. The fish fillet is huge and well fried, not over cooked. The fish is also not tough at all. Their other western dishes are also worth trying! continue reading

One of its most popular orders, this fish cutlet set is served with rice, soup, vegetables and french fries. The cutlet is crispy and slightly salty. As for the rice, I liked it very much as it is not too soft nor not too hard and has a nice garlic flavour to it and is served warm. As for the boiled vegetabes of carrots and cauliflower, they were boiled and taste fresh though slightly hard but a good blend with the cutlet. As for the fries, the serving was generous and deep fried, tasted well with tomato sauce and mayonnaise. I liked the bowl of mushroom most the most. though it is not as creamy as some other mushroom soup, it is served hot and fresh and the serving is generous too. Most importantly, the soup is not too salty and I would recommend you to finish it before it turns cold. continue reading

The food at MEGAbites Cafe is quite alright in general. But one set back is the atmosphere where you could smell oil in the air, as their open-concept kitchen is inside the cafe, and they do lots of deep-fry in there. Not too impressive. I ordered the oriental pasta, served with chicken cutlet. The dish comes with potato soup, and it costs $5.50. Reasonable price. The cutlet is very crispy outside, slightly too hard I reckon. However, I love the pasta. Very rich tomato paste, and lots of seaweed. continue reading

I don't know what possessed me to order Carbonara that day as I've always been skeptical about the quality of cream dishes from restaurants, let alone a school cafe. Needless to say, the carbonara was a disappointment, not because of the dish itself, but because of cooking methods; there was a fishy taste that contaminated the entire dish, probably because they didn't wash/ change the pan between dishes. The sauce for the spaghetti wasn't too creamy but I couldn't bring myself to finish the spaghetti due to the fishy taste. What a waste! continue reading
