This neighborhood Japanese restaurant is a good place for a taste of affordable yummy Japanese food. The Kaki Furni ($12.80) is the chef's recommended signature dish. The deep fried oysters are crispy outside, juicy fat and fresh inside. The batter is not overly thick, just enough to give a crispy nice texture! Unagi Tofu ($7.80) is my favourite. The deep-fried beancurd has a very crispy, the tofu itself is silky smooth. It also contains grilled eel inside, enhances the flavour by much. The sweet sauce drizzled on top is delicious too. A must try I reckon!Oki Ebi Yaki Meshi ($15.80) is quite ordinary though, the fried rice tastes Ok, nothing too special though the big prawn is very fresh. continue reading

I last visited Sunset Way back in July last year. I was curious which restaurants are still operating after the rental hike saga. Great to see most of the restaurants are still there and the place. The area was also quite crowded for a weekday night.I roamed around the area for a while before settling for dinner at Megumi Japanese Restaurant. Most of the restaurants were quite full and this was the least crowded. The Grilled Saba was quite good for the standard of a casual Japanese restaurant. The Yasai Tempura consisted of deep fried sweet potato, golden mushroom, eggplant, mushroom and carrot. The deep fried carrot was very hard and I just don't enjoyed carrot being done this way.Shabu Shabu and the Hokubee Beef was good. Although it was not top grade beef, the Hokubee beef was good and worth for money continue reading

Megumi Japanese Restaurant has the special promotion during weekdays. When you order any main course, you could complete the meal with $4.80++ for any 2 items (of the special menu) plus free flow of hot Ocha. We ordered two main courses, and completed with 4 side dishes. Quite filling, and most importantly, delicious!I had the Braised pork cutlet with egg. The bento came in such a big portion. The cutlet is tender, and i like the egg gravy. The set also consists of fresh salmon sashimi, very worth the price. Another main dish that we ordered is the Fried soba noodles ($9.80). The texture of soba noodles still maintained very well. The flavour is very good, I reckon it's a must try. It has plenty of ingredients too, vegetables and chicken meat. Yummy. As for the side dishes, we had the Steamed egg custard. Very smooth and silky, pleasantly tasty. Prawn tempura is very well done. Not too oily yet very crispy. The soft-shell crab hand roll is pretty alright. The crab is slightly crispy and together with some mayonnaise, it tastes quite nice. And lastly, we have the chocolate ice-cream. It says 'free-flow' on the menu if you choose it as the side dish, but we were so full that we didn't ask for the second scoop though it's very nice. continue reading

We had gone to Clementi market, and after shopping,we decided to have some Japanese food, so we decided on Meguni Restaurant as the venue was pretty close to clementi mall. It is just about 4 stops away by bus. We were too impatient to wait for a bus, so we took a cab.Megumi Restaurant is located at Sunset way in an HDB setup,a longside many other good restaurants. We got off and luckily headed in the right direction. We had to pass by a food court and then spotted Megumi restaurant. It is a beautiful place with a Japanese feel, with a sit-out as well as an indoor seating arrangement. Japanese paintings were all over. A neat & impressive bar at 1 corner. We finally decided to take a table indoors. The staff, wearing maroon outfits, guided us to our table, and they were really warm & friendly. They handed us the menu card & we took a while to go through the menu and finally placed the order. We ordered for Tofu megumi -age (served with teriyaki sauce), miso soup & crispy soft shell crab for starters, Katsu curry rice (Pork cutlet curry rice),Yaki Meshi (Japanese Fried rice) for main course, lemon iced tea, Japanese tea for beverages & green tea ice cream for dessert. The starters arrived first. we loved both the starters. The soft shell crab was crisp & tasty, the bean curd was great as well & so was the miso soup. Then came the main course, both the rice dishes were great, but i preferred the Yaki meshi more. we enjoyed our food with some Japanese tea & iced lemon tea. Finally the ice cream was served, it was topped with some kidney beans & tasted great. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience at Magumi. I would love to go there, whenever I am in the mood for some Japanese food. continue reading

We were in the mood for some Japanese food on Easter Sunday, so we decided on Meguni Restaurant as the venue for our Easter dinner :-). Megumi was recommended to us by our friends, so we went there. We had to take a bus from Clementi MRT.Megumi Restaurant is located at Sunset way in an HDB setup,a longside many other good restaurants. As we got off at the bus stop,we were wondering what kind of restaurant to expect. We were pleasantly surprised once we located the restaurant, which was not difficult to find. It is a lovely restaurant, with a sit-out as well as an indoor seating arrangement. Red seemed to be the theme of the restaurant. The place has beautiful japanese paintings all over. A neat & impressive bar at 1 corner. We finally decided to take a corner table. We were guided to our table by the 'Ever friendly Staff',wearing maroon outfits, who were really warm, courteous & welcomed us with a big smile. We were handed the Menu & we took some time to go through it before placing our order. We ordered for Yaki Meshi (Japanese Fried rice), Bacon Hotate Yaki, Miso Shiro (soup) & fried ice cream for dessert. The Miso Shiro arrived first. It was a Miso soup, served warm, with a very distinct flavour. It was a good start to the meal. Then came Bacon Hotate Yaki & Yaki Meshi. The Bacon Hotate was Bacon wrapped scallops, served on a skewer with teriyaki sauce. Being bacon lovers, we loved the bacon wraps. The Japanese fried rice was also excellent. It was a normal chicken & egg fried rice with some vegetables. We had it with a dry chilli & pepper powder mix. We loved the fried rice so much, that we ordered it twice & requested for it to be spicy. We ate to our hearts content & finally finished off with a Vanilla fried ice cream. The fried ice cream was the best fried ice cream I've ever eaten. It was crispy & hard from the outside & soft & cold on the inside.I loved the buzzers placed on every table, wherein we could press the buzzer to place an order, or to request for the bill. The food prices are reasonable but the portions are small. I have to admit the food is really tasty & the staff treat you royally and you will never regret dining there. It was a super duper dining experience for us. If you want to try Japanese cuisine in Singapore, Megumi Restaurant is the BEST . continue reading
