A New Bistro in Town: Skyve
2011-12-22
If you’re a fan of Table 66, then you’d be happy to know that the team behind this restaurant has recently opened Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar. However, unlike its predecessor, Skyve has a more relaxed and casual vibe which easily reminds you of your carefree school days. It’s also quite good to know that they have friendlier prices so you don’t have to burn a hole in your pocket when you dine here.
The cosy interior which reminds diners of their carefree school days
Step into their spacious restaurant and be easily mesmerised with its old school charm. It’s divided into sections with different themes to cater to your dining needs. They have a lounge area with rocking chairs for a more relaxed atmosphere, an alfresco area with a good view of their landscaped garden, an indoor dining area with classroom-like chairs. If you’re in need of some alcoholic drinks, then head on down to their bar area and choose from over 50 labels. It’s also a relief that their drinks are reasonably priced with bottles starting from $55++. Once you’ve chosen the drink of your choice, you can now order their food. You’d be happy to know that Skyve is an all-day dining concept with lots of great dishes on their menu. Start with their Proscuitto Ham Pizza Slab ($16). Available for weekday breakfast, weekend brunch and daily bar snacks, this dish is the perfect starter as its very light so it doesn’t take up too much space in your stomach. It leaves you with many more dishes to try out! For something more fishy, then you can try their Skyvefella Oysters ($30- 1/2 dozen, $56- 1 dozen) which is available for dinner and as bar snacks.
Sous Vide Egg Benedict ($18)
If you’re heading here for breakfast, don’t forget to try their Sous Vide Egg Benedict ($18). The egg in this dish is perfectly poached, as Chef Vincent’s extensive sous vide experience has allowed him to perfect this cooking method. He then mixes it up with other ingredients for your dining pleasure.
Char Grilled Beet Burger ($30)
Other notable mentions are the Confit of Duck Leg ($34), Sous Vide Spring Chicken ($32), and the Skyve Seared Beef Tartare ($22). It may look like this bistro is more for meat lovers, but they also have healthy dishes on their menu. One recommendation is the Char Grilled Beet Burger ($30) which amazingly doesn’t taste like a vegetarian burger with a cardboard taste. The flavour is just so rich as Chef Vincent used grilled vegetarian patty, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes in creating this dish. Cap off your dining experience with their signature dessert, the Homemade Maple Ice Cream ($12). Yes, they make their own ice cream so you are assured of the quality and the flavour. Skyve is the perfect place for you if you want to get away from the city bustle and just enjoy comforting food at reasonable cost. When you do decide to dine here, don’t forget to bring your family or friends! -- Address: 10 Winstedt Road Tel.
