Can you honestly and truly say that you’re a dessert fanatic? If you are, then would you be adventurous enough to try the different offerings from other countries? Before you decide, read on and find out if you can stomach the sweet treats other than your usual chocolates, pies, and cakes.

1. Meat Cake | Australia From the looks of it, it seems like your average cake which you can buy at the bakeshop. Wait till you get a slice of it, and you’ll see how the chiffon is layered with meat loaf and covered with mashed potato icing, it’s even glazed with ketchup! Weird Factor: It's a cake -- which is made from burger ingredients.

2. Chocolate-covered Crickets | Thailand In recent news, U.N. announced that eating bugs is actually good for you. Well, how about some chocolate covered bugs? For this version, the crickets are deep-fried to achieve that crispy texture, then for that additional oomph, these are dipped in chocolate! 3. Cherpumple | US

Ever heard of turducken? Well, the cherpumple is some sort of its dessert version. This holiday novelty item is basically a three layered-cake made up of cherry pie inside a white cake, pumpkin pie in a yellow cake, and apple spice in a spice cake. Weird Factor: Three of your favourite pie flavours (cherry, pumpkin, and apple) are all combined to make one helluva dessert! Photo credit: tumblr 4. Dirt Ice Cream | Japan

While many of us try to avoid dirt on our food, a restaurant in Japan is doing the opposite. The main ingredient for Chef Toshio Tanabe’s $110 menu is a special black soil found in the Tochigi Prefecture in Kanuma. His chocolate ice cream dessert is no exception as it’s mixed with dirt which results in a creamy texture with a hint of graininess.

Considered as Turkey’s signature dessert, this is usually served to the sultans in the Ottoman Topkapi Palace. To prepare the pudding, the chicken is boiled ‘til the meat can be separated into fine strips and mixed with sugar, milk, and other ingredients. Weird Factor: We’re used to chicken as a savoury item on our dining table, and not a dessert.

This is just like your typical rice pudding, but instead of rice, the main ingredient is the vermicelli noodles. Prepared in Portugal during special occasions like Christmas, this dish can be served warm or cold. For that added appeal, it’s covered with cinnamon and garnished with berries. Weird Factor: Sweet pasta? Err… we prefer it to be savoury.

Desserts are meant to be sweet, but this Fish & Chips gelato begs to differ. This special flavour from down under is made with generous bits of fish & chips, which give it a hint of saltiness. But the sweetness from the gelato still over power the overall flavour.

Filipinos love their rice so much that even some of their desserts are made of this. One example is the champorado which is basically glutinous rice flavoured with chocolate, coconut milk, and condensed milk. It can be eaten warm or cold, depending on the weather. 9. Scorpion Candy| Thailand

Considered as a novelty item in other countries such as Thailand, scorpions have been served in all sorts of ways just to make more people appreciate this delicacy. One way is by embedding it inside a candy. So while you lick through the candy, the surprise you will get isn’t chocolate (like most lollipops) – it will be scorpion guts! While we know beer as an ingredient in many dishes, who knew that it can also be considered as an ice cream flavour? Its strong and (sometimes) bitter taste is paired well with the creaminess and sweetness of the ice cream. Weird Factor: It’s beer in the form of an ice cream. Sorry, not for kids!
