OpenRice.com was enticed by The Diet Butler's sleek and colorful online shop-front and it's philosophy in the form of witty quotes splattered on their website such as "Your stomach shouldn't be a waist basket" and "When it comes to eating right, there's no such thing as, 'I'll start tomorrow'. Procrastination is a disease". Quotes that both motivates and subtlety mocks, prompting you to take action for your health now nOW NOW, which you can readily do so by a simple click on their online menu and have it delivered to your doorstep in 90 mins if you lived within 6 km radius from their humble cafe.
Intrigued by the concept of customizing and delivery quality health food, we decided to head down to the cafe to check out the place and sample its dishes fresh out of the kitchen, all of which, are helmed by 22-year-old Nicholas Tjoa and 23-year-old Owen Chong, the latter of whom was Manhunt 2008 runner-up and Can You Serve? contestant, and both of whom looks as fit as the dishes they whipped up.
It took head chef Nicholas, who once aspired to be a pilot, 8 months of testing and tasting before the range of salads, pastas, risotto and meats were ready for public consumption. They believe in quality over quantity, choosing only to deliver if they can ensure that the quality of the food can be maintained as the heat wears off. The boys understanding of quality extends to more than just their food, but to their service as well.
