Turning one is a grand affair and Loola's understands that very well. The semi-fine dining eatery by Awfully Chocolate specialises in contemporary European dishes with Asian touches and recently introduced several new dishes to its already extensive menu – all in the name of celebrating its first anniversary!
A whole smorgasbord of starters have been added to the menu and items include Spiced Pumpkin Soup ($12) and Roasted Squash Salad ($18), but if you want a little bit of everything – or if you’re just plain indecisive – Loola’s Board ($32) makes a great choice. It’s full of light bites such as Miso Roasted Garlic Cloves, Baked Cherry Tomatoes, Dates with Serrano Ham, Grilled Octopus (goes great with the accompanying pesto sauce), and sinful Bone Marrow to spread on crunchy Garlic Crostini.
Some excellent mains to consider are Shoulder of Lamb Goulash ($32) and Duck Pangang ($32). Prepared as a Hungarian goulash and served with a dollop of sour cream, the tenderness of the braised lamb shoulder is divine enough to tempt anyone, while the meat of the Duck Pangang is just as delectable as the crispy, melt-in-your-mouth skin on the outside.
Of course, since Loola’s is under the Awfully Chocolate group, you simply cannot leave without trying their desserts. It’s no easy feat picking your choice of dessert here because there are SO many to choose from, but we highly recommend the Banofee Tart ($12) and, although not a new addition, The Loola’s Brownie ($12) is a classic you really have to try.
The Banofee Tart is perfect for lovers of pies and tarts with its moist yet flaky crust and three key ingredients: caramelised bananas, toffee sauce and custard. Don’t be fooled by the “mild” appearance of The Loola’s Brownie… this treat pretty much sums up the term “chocolate overload”! It’s the densest, most moist brownie you’ll ever taste – plus the layer of lightly salted handmade butterscotch in between gives it that added oomph. Hellooo, sugar rush!
