Restaurant is Questioned by Police after Flash Mob Performance
2012-09-19
Flash Mobs are the answer to everything? Apparently not. Fern and Kiwi, the newest restaurant and bar from New Zealand, was questioned by the police after performing an impromptu flash mob in the heart of Orchard without authorisation. In Singapore, there are strict rules against public performances without any entertainment license. When asked about the issue, Fern & Kiwi’s Director and Spokesperson Simon Dunlop said that the restaurant’s staff members were inspired to do the Haka dance after performing it at the restaurant a few days before it officially opened. They also posted the video on YouTube:
In a statement, Dunlop mentioned that they are sorry for any offense caused and he hoped that they could start to “embark on a long journey in Singapore.” Until now, investigations are still on-going. If Fern and Kiwi is found to have broken the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act, the restaurant may have to pay a hefty fine of $10,000.
