Guests should adhere to the strict dress code of all white at Diner en Blanc
In recent days, however, the whole event was marred with controversy when its event organiser told a local food blogger to remove a blog post suggesting local foods to bring to the event. Apparently, chicken rice and tau huay (tofu pudding) were not in line with the whole image of the event. This sparked outrage for many thought this was an insult to Singapore culture for our own food is as classy as anyone else’s.

To bring light to this whole hoo-ha, another local blogger, ieatishootipost, interviewed two of its key personalities. Co-founders of Diner en Blanc International Aymeric Pasquier (son of Diner en Blanc founder) and Sandy Safi flew down from Montreal to attend the event and also help clear up the issues surrounding Diner en Blanc.
One of the things they wanted to clear up was that local food is more than welcome in the picnic. They just want the guests to spend more time in cooking the food rather than buying them outside. Since this event “recalls the elegance and glamour of court society,” the last thing they want to see is something bought from fast food restaurants.
