Beer drinkers rejoice for Grimbergen is FINALLY in Singapore! Introduced to Singaporeans in July of this year, this premium Belgian Abbey Beer is sure to garner fans due to its exquisite taste profile which sticks to your mind (and tastebuds!) after just having one glass.
EXCLUSIVELY available at 1128, the world’s first flagship Grimbergen bar situated within the iconic Tanglin Post Office building, you can enjoy it in three different flavours: Blanche, Blonde, and Ambree.
Aside from the taste, what is most surprising about this beverage is that it retails for only $10 for 250ml all day! You can choose to order it in the bar or get it from the beer tap itself (though the 2nd option is definitely more fun and challenging).
After savouring the different types of beer, you can also have a hearty meal at Nassim Hill located near 1128. This dining place has a wide range of dishes you can enjoy with your family and friends. Take, for example, the Grimbergen Ambree Bread ($8 per loaf) helmed by Head Baker Audrey Tan. This signature bread has a malty flavour which goes well with their Hot Reuben ($16), made of emmental cheese melted with corned beef, sauerkraut, and onions over bread.
Bread won’t make you full, so take advantage of their offerings and order the Grimbergen Fish and Chips ($20) which has a batter made with Grimbergen Blanche. Other dishes on the menu are the Braised Meatballs with Artisanal Breadbasket ($22), Nonya Beef Tenderloin Curry ($22), Penne Marinara ($14), Spaghetti Carbonara ($20) and brunch staples such as the Eggs Benedict ($15) on white ciabatta and eggs.
These dishes are best served with Grimbergen beers, but if you want to try other drinks, you’re in luck for they also offer other types of beverages. You can look forward to sips of their wines: Perrier Jouet Belllini ($22), Campari Soda ($10), Havana Club Lychee Mojito ($18) and Pimms Lemonade ($10). Cheers!
About Grimbergen
The Grimbergen beer was founded in 1128 (hence the bar’s name) in an ancient abbey in Belgium. Known for taking in visitors and offering them their home-brewed beers, the abbey was sadly destroyed in a terrible fire in 1142, 1566, and 1798.
Despite these terrible circumstances, the monks were still able to rebuild it and until now the abbey is still in existence. Hence, they adopted the symbol of a phoenix to represent their perpetual rebirth. They also adopted a motto, Ardec Nec Consumitir, which means burned but not destroyed.
Today, the beers are now brewed in Strasbourg France by the Carlsberg Group. Amazingly, they still use the original recipe given to them by the monks.
