Dareius Lim, 24, owner of Around De World – A Pasta Affair


Do not be fooled by this small frame, soft spoken, and good-looking chef. At a young age of 24, Dareius is already the boss of his restaurant, Around De World. If you have not heard of this place, it is located along the famous food enclave at Liang Seah Street. Coming from a well-to-do family with his dad from the business line, Dareius was inspired to start a business of his own too! Since 8 years old, Dareius had been traveling overseas with his father frequently and this exposed him to different cultures and gourmet from around the world. From then on, he acquired a “global palate” and developed a keen interest in the food industry. No wonder he came out with the name Around De World for his cafe! Dareius started off his culinary adventure in SHATEC institute after his secondary education. He was very good with the theory but practical was far from it as cooking a sunny side up egg was a problem for him. He almost wanted to give up his strong interest in food but during his attachment period at Holiday Inn Atrium, things gradually started to change for the better. From the sweat and effort put in during the training phrase, he picked up a lot under the study of various chefs during the 3 months of attachment! After graduating from SHATEC, Dareius served the National Service before enrolling into Australia Le Cordon Bleu for his Bachelor's Degree in Restaurant Management and Catering. It was quite a fruitful experience for him to study overseas as not only did he learn about culinary and management; he also learned recipes from people with different nationalities. After completing his study, Dareius returned to Singapore and worked as a Captain at Everything With Fries for 6 months before starting out his cafe Around De World– A Pasta Affair with the support from his Dad. Dareius strongly believes in using the freshness and finest ingredient by making it from scratch yet selling at the most affordable price for everyone. He also believes in creativity and breaking out of the old tradition. That is why Around De World’s motto is “My Style, Your Taste” which aims to cook dishes in their style and suiting it to your taste buds. If you have not tried out the delicious pastas and desserts at Around De World such as the Chilli O’ Crab and the Tetramisu, you will have to do so!
