Full Review at http://lepakwithyaops.com/authentic-thai-cuisine-by-first-thai-purvis-street-bugisFollow Lepak With Yaops on Instagram and FacebookOperating hours at First Thai is relatively short, and is packed with people most of the time! No reservation allowed, so come early if you want to avoid queuing.Basil Chicken - Spicy, yet flavorful!Green Curry - Very rich and creamy. Heavy with coconut base...a little less generous would had been perfect for me.Panda Chicken - Fragrant and chunky, couldn't ask for more!Phad Thai - One of the better ones around Singapore. Semi-wet and gooey (that's how I describe and prefer), balanced on the sweetness and generous with their garnishing.Sea Bass in Thai Sauce - Some protein for our muscles! Very delicious and appetizing gravy/soup and the fish was fresh!Overall, First Thai was priced a little above average but with good portions and taste. I guess that even things out. continue reading

The bf and I were roaming around City Hall deciding what to have for dinner. We decided to have Saveur as it was just nearby. When we arrived, we were placed on the waiting list and we were told that it would be a 30-45 minutes wait. After recording down our particulars, we wandered around Purvis Street and I spotted Jai Thai. Just a few days ago, I was googling on cheap and affordable thai food and Jai Thai appeared on the list. We almost settled for Jai Thai but we did not because we saw First Thai just a few shops further down.It was full house and there were people waiting for tables too. Thankfully we managed to get a table the moment we were there.Thai Iced Tea $3It was really sweet but the taste was great when the ice melted. There is something about thai iced tea that makes it so special and it is a drink that I must order whenever I visit thai eateries. The thai cuisine experience is never complete without thai iced tea!Green Curry Chicken $8 It would certainly taste better if it was served hotter. The chicken cubes in the watery green curry with texture almost like soup could not be seen if I did not scoop them up for a picture. The green curry was not at all spicy and it was sweet - good to complement with white rice.Seafood Tom Yum Soup $8The heavenly combination of hot and sour flavours beautifully overwhelmed my tastebuds the moment I had my first sip. There were sliced button mushrooms, a slice of fish, sotongs and some prawns in it. This is supposed to be an individual portion but it is good to share between 2.Spicy Lemon Fish $30While we were waiting for our table, I saw the table next to us having this fish and it looked fresh so we ordered it. There were a few varieties to choose from - spicy garlic fish, fried fish and so on. When we placed our orders, the waitress was surprised and asked me who had told me to order this dish. When CC asked her for recommendations, she said that we had ordered all of their popular dishes. The fish was really big, too big for 2 people to finish it all. The fish meat was so soft and tender, possibly one of the best I had eaten. Their gravy was more sour than spicy. I still prefer Bali Thai's rendition of their spicy lemongrass gravy but First Thai's fish definitely wins Bali Thai hands down.Service was friendly and I like the no-frills environment and ambience too. There are pictures of Elvis Presley and pictorial vintage decorations on the walls which, although I could not find any link to Thai cuisine, appreciate the sight of them.If you are looking for relatively affordable and good Thai food, check out First Thai. continue reading

Place was very crowded when we reached but the staff was very nice, she opened up a table at the outside of the restaurant for us. We had a few dishes to share. The chicken fried rice smells especially good, and the taste certainly does the smell justice. It's one of the best chicken fried rice I've ever had. We had sambal kangkong, which tastes quite similar to any other kangkongs, nothing ordinary. The spring rolls were very crispy, I liked the sauce that came along with it. Tastes sweet and brings out the taste of the spring rolls. Had the crispy golden mushroom, the cook fried it well. We like it as it didn't taste oily. One of the must go thai restaurants! P/S: Restaurant closes after lunch hours and opens again for dinner, so be sure to check the opening hours before visiting! continue reading

This Thai restaurant is at the row of low shophouse. It isn't really furnished nicely as compared to those in retail mall. But the food is surprisingly good. The fried rice is not too oily like those normal ones, and the portion for the large sized one is really big. Prawns and sotong are fresh as well. I really liked their deep fried golden mushroom as it's not too oily and seasoned nicely. continue reading

Tonight having dinner in a quite old school environment, surrounded by old pictures around. Bandung (Green)It is quite a milky drink with not much of a flavour.Fried Rice with CrabmeatQuite nice with chucky of real crab meat (no crab sticks here).Stirred Fried Long BeanQuite spicy and crunchy.Tom Yum ChickenThe soup hits with the right amount of spiciness and sourness. It is filled with chicken and button mushroom.Basil Leaves Fried with Pork/Chicken Although I do not like basil leaves due to its strong taste, but this dish is quite well cooked that balanced off the taste of the leaves.Deep Fried FishAlthough quite crispy on the outside, but the meat is still quite juicy.Total amount costs $84 for 3 persons. continue reading
