An Interview with Rachel Allen
2012-10-12
Despite her busy schedule hosting BBC Lifestyle's Rachel Allen's Easy Meals and gracing the Starhub Hubalicious events, the queen of Irish cooking sits down with OpenRice to discuss with us her love for Singaporean food and many more! Read her interview here:
OpenRice: Hey, Rachel. Welcome back to Singapore! How has your trip been so far? Rachel Allen: It’s been fabulous! It’s been good and busy. I’ve just been working non-stop with radio interviews, a couple of master classes, and filming. I also hosted Starhub’s Hubalicious dinner event at The Jewel Box, Mount Faber. I’m doing a little bit of eating here and there as well. OpenRice: Sounds like you’ve been REALLY busy! Whenever you go back to Singapore, do you find time to visit a particular restaurant? Rachel Allen: I don’t think I’ve been to the same restaurant twice here in Singapore. I do normally say, though, that I have to have Chilli Crab as my first meal. OpenRice: Any new chilli crab restaurants you’ve tried and would love to recommend us? Rachel Allen: Last night, we went to Hua Yu Wee to have some chilli crab. It was deep fried with these tiny little squids in deep sauce. There were also drunken prawns. It was just amazing! OpenRice: Since you adore chilli crab, have you tried cooking it? Rachel Allen: Never! But I would love to try it sometime. OpenRice: Any chance of coming up with a cooking show dedicated to Asian cooking? Rachel Allen: Hopefully, sometime in the not-so-distant future. I don’t think it’s going to be next year, but I’m hoping for it to be quite soon, actually. OpenRice: Any Asian recipes that you want to learn and feature in your cooking show? Rachel Allen: I want to learn the Katong Laksa, which I had for lunch! OpenRice: What do you think of Singaporean cuisine? Rachel Allen: I love it!
