Here's a view of De Dietrich's new kitchen showroom
OpenRice got to witness first-hand how efficient their kitchen products are when they invited 14 lucky OpenRicers for a Cooking Demo on the 9th of June. Held at their newly-revamped kitchen showroom, the space features a bigger and more modern space which also houses some of De Dietrich’s most popular products.
The theme for the day was Japanese and who else was the best person to lead the cooking demo than Chef Tadashi Takahashi? With an extensive experience in this type of cooking, the invited OpenRicers were more than excited to learn a few tricks in cooking sashimi and many more.
Chef Tadashi demonstrates the proper way of slicing sashimi
The demonstration started with the appetiser, Salmon Sahimi with Japanese Shiso Sauce. Chef Tadashi said that the trick to preparing the best sashimi is to get the freshest fish. After a brief introduction about this dish, Chef then taught the OpenRicers how to slice the perfect sashimi. For this one, he used a long knife for a sharp and clean cut. To make the demo more interesting, he even asked a few volunteers to help slice the salmon. Once the fish was sliced, he then showed the members how to prepare the Shiso sauce before he served it to the OpenRicers.

After tasting the appetiser, the lucky members couldn’t wait to learn about the main course, the Beef Sirloin Misozuke (Marinated in Miso). The beef seemed like it would take forever to cook, but Chef Tadashi let the OpenRicers in on a secret—De Dietrich’s oven which tenderised the marinated beef in less than an hour. Then, he used the induction hob to saute the beef until cooked.

For the last part of the Cooking Demo, Chef taught the OpenRicers how to make the Japanese Sakura Mochi dessert. This was a tricky one as the OpenRicers had a bit of a hard time rolling the sweet bean into small balls. But with Chef Tadashi’s help, the volunteers finally mastered it after a couple of tries.
The cooking demo ended with De Dietrich giving the 14 participants goodie bags. They all went home with full tummies and new knowledge about Japanese cooking.
