Chanced upon this vegan restaurant while walking from Chinatown to Clarke Quay - streets lined with plenty of restaurants but this menu right outside Genesis Vegan Restaurant (nearest MRT: Clarke Quay and walk towards Raffles Place) made me stop for a moment - and I went in. At first glance, it looks like any run of the mill menu standboards - but the selections are definitely not the predictable ones. Highlighting a few that are slightly more extraordinary (just by the name) - Almond Noodles ($6.90), Lei Cha ($6.90) and Korean Rice Set ($12) all under one roof. Upon entering, I discovered the more popular dishes are ones dashed with local flavour - Rendang Rice ($8.90) and Nasi Lemak ($9.90). There is also a whole shelf of health foods, including organic vermicelli, nonya dumplings, and soy-based products. Genesis Vegan's menu - not very extensive but surely there will be something that will pique your interest or curiosity (or both). The whole place is really quiet (almost silent) on a weekday afternoon, and there is absolutely no stress of staying too long because there are more than enough seats to go around. There is this unassuming, relaxed atmosphere that allows you to while your time away with some good food.Tofu Cheese Pie ($4): Was struggling between this and Chendol Pie - both sounding really indulgent and unique - and I decided on this. The cheese cake is quite sour, not by virtue of the cheese itself but also by traces of lime. I liked the cheese part - but the crust is too crumbly and does not hold well together - a little disappointing because the biscuit seemed to have gone soft already. The customers here are mostly regulars and know the lady boss by her first name, tourists, and fewer are wandering passers-by like myself. It would be wise to stick with their mains, especially the Rendang Rice which the regulars enjoyed very much. As for the desserts, it is advised to either swing over to Robertson Quay for cakes or Chinatown for Hongkong desserts. For more food adventures, follow me at http://spherepiece.blogspot.sg/ 繼續閱讀
