Serving up local fare with above-average price tags attached to them, Pappasan Restaurant at Dorsett Hotel is all about extravagance. Expect to pay around $16+ for Chicken Rice and $38+ for dishes like the Richman Fried Rice. 繼續閱讀

The restaurant is located at the first of the hotel. It is beautifully decorated in a modern and stylish way. Although it was a weekend afternoon, there was no other customers in the restaurant. I had decided to dine at this restaurant as I was around the area after collecting some stuff from HPB, and also I noticed that the restaurant had 1 for 1 main promotion in the Entertainer mobile application. The staff was not quite happy with me on ordering a pasta dish and a noodle dish while using the promotion. He replied this was a special one time case. One had to order a western dish and a local dish in order to enjoy the promotion which was not stated in the promotion.Tom Yam Aglio Olio Spaghetti ($18.50++)Spicy prawns and seafood over spaghetti tossed in tom yam sauce. Top with diced tomatoes.I had asked to have the dish changed to non spicy. It turned out to be a rather soupy dish, which was more like a prawn noodle soup. And a bit too salty.Signature Snow White Vermicelli ($18++)Fried rice vermicelli tossed with snow drop egg white and scallops, topped with silky poached egg.The dish was nicely presented and well fried. However it was let down by it's too salty taste. When the bill was presented, I was again warned by the staff over the ordering of the 2 dishes using Entertainer application. It seems that one would be expected to order a steak which costs more $30++ when most other dishes costs around $18++. By the way pasta dishes were not considered western dishes here. That was why I was being warned again. There would be not next time for me. So unpleasant dining experience. 繼續閱讀

We were extremely disappointed with our visit to Pappasan after falling trap to yet another deal.com “scam”. This tapas dinner set was supposed to be meant for 2 pax, but seriously, the portions were pathetic and the quality, below par. The cold tapas platter included (i) Hardboiled Egg, Guacamole & Salmon Roe, (ii) Chicken Ham, (iii) Smoked Salmon, and (iv) Cured Ham Bruschetta. The portion, as captured, was hardly enough for 1 pax. Simple cold snacks that tasted pretty average, period. The hot tapas included (i) Cheese & Ham Croquette, and (ii) Fries with salsa meat sauce. The croquette was probably left outside for some time as it was served cold and unappetising. The salsa meat sauce was kind of diluted and tasted blend. Honestly, the fries were better off served separately as the sauce somehow made them soggy overtime. Given the quality of dishes served, we did not pin too much anticipation on their Seafood Paella. The seafood were pretty fresh but the rice was too dry and lacked the natural sweetness and fragrance of every decent Paella. The overall taste was kind of flat and we were struggling to finish it. Although the service was good and amicable, this would probably be our first and last visit. 繼續閱讀

See my full review & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/01/29/below-par-tapas-set-dinner-tapasan-dorset-hotel-on-28jan2014/Bought a deal.com voucher so went with a friend on 28.1.2014 to use it before expiry on 31.1.2014. the S$29.90 voucher for 2pax tapas dinner set include selection 4 cold tapas, 2 hot tapas, paella & drinks at tapasan (pappasan) at the new dorsett hotel at bukit pasoh. The ambience was great. we sat at a table alongside the long glass windows facing new bridge road.choice of drink included artois stellar or hoe garden beer. my friend ordered the spanish beer & i ordered a guava juice. we arrived restaurant at 8.45pm. website said last order 9.30pm but the spanish server informed that they ran out of paella & would replaced by a seafood fried rice & they were about the same. i told her paella & seafood fried rice were not the same. anyhow she gave us an extra guava juice to make up. service & attitude were ok, nothing great. The 4 cold tapas (ham, cured meat, salmon, cheese/egg) were ok i guessed, but i should really say below par for a decent tapas restaurant. likewise the hot tapas of cheese meat balls & fries with egg/sausage pieces. And of course really it was quite meaningless to have seafood fried rice at a tapas restaurant instead of seafood & chicken paella in the dinner set menu. The fried rice was okay to good standard, so as a meal it was okay.My idea of a good tapas restaurant was la cicala at club street which served excellent S$25pax set lunch include 3 tapas, main & coffee, but I think it had closed for sometime already. To be fair, price-wise at S$29.90 net for 2pax dinner (a good paella alone could cost that much, well that was if we actually had a good paella instead of substituted seafood fried rice), food was ok-ish & really i should not complain, but i would not want go back for sub-par food even at cheaper prices. 繼續閱讀
