Caffé Republic is easily one of the stores I frequent often at Causeway Point's Food Republic just for their Belgium Waffles and Gelato ice cream alone. The waffles are cooked on the spot so you will need to wait a while for it to be ready. They are usually quite crispy on the outside and "fluffy" inside, which I like. However, I find the taste of the waffles to be somewhat inconsistent. I once had one that was really tasteless, but it was a one time thing for me since they are generally thick and flavourful enough.
The gelato ice cream were also very rich and smooth. I've tried Chocolate, Tiramisu and Cookies and Cream, and my favourites so far are Chocolate (thick, decadent chocolate taste) and Cookies and Cream (rich vanilla taste with no lack of real cookies in it)! Pair together with a freshly cooked waffle and chocolate syrup, the result is just.... yum!
I just wish they'd offer more choice of flavours at any one given time. The last few times I went (late morning, mid afternoon and late evening), there were only a few flavours available for selection while the rest of the tubs were "closed". However, while I'm a fan of the waffles and ice-cream, I am not that impressed with their customer service. At one time, I had to repeat my order to remind the lady to add the chocolate syrup topping and she still forgot to key it into my receipt and I ended up paying extra to add it to my waffle. Another time, the other lady added maple instead of chocolate but still blamed me because I said chocolate "syrup" and by "syrup" she thought I meant maple even though I said chocolate. (￣▵￣) More can certainly be done to improve their customer service.
Overall, I recommend trying the Gelato ice-cream on its own or have it with the Belgium Waffle. A scoop of ice cream costs $2.50 while a scoop with the waffle costs $4.80. You generally add about $2.00 extra for each scoop thereafter, so two scoops with the waffle is about $6.80. Adding syrup is about 20 cents extra. It is worthwhile to share with a friend and get more scoops of ice cream on the waffle. In addition, you can also get a 10% discount off regular priced items from the store on weekdays if you are a passion card member!
