I have always been on the look out for good oneh oneh. A friend was telling me about this stall and their oneh oneh just other day and i thought i should try it. What exactly is oneh oneh? It is actually glutinous rice balls filled with gula melaka (palm sugar) and sprinkled with grated coconut on the outer layer. A good oneh oneh is to give you the effect of bursting in your mouth when you bite on it. It is usually extremely addictive as one such ball is never quite enough. A box of 6 bite sized oneh oneh is acceptably priced at $2.60. The presentation did not score a full mark as the grated coconut of 2 out of the 6 pieces were slightly 'strained' with a bit of the gula melaka. That particular 2 pieces did not have a full filling of the gula melaka and so it did not have the effect of bursting in the mouth. The other 4 have got its filling intact so the bursting effect is somewhat achieved. The level of sweetness was acceptable with a thin layer of skin that made of glutinous rice that have got a desired chewiness. They served one of the better versions of Oneh Oneh.
