For more reviews, visit www.umakemehungry.comWith so many cafes popping up over this few years, how do they actually stand up among others beside the quality of food? FFL (Fresh Fruits Lab) differentiate themselves with a unique theme in their restaurant. Located in the East Region of Singapore,Artistically theme with laboratory inspired environment with writable black board surface on its wall at the counter.Take a look at the shelving at the side of the Lab and you will find interesting articles in each compartment.I have not touched or seen any periodic table since I last had my chemistry lessons. Interestingly you may get to see one portion of their menu that was designed like the periodic table we used in science lesson. However, at a closer look, you will realize that its actually referring to the fruits.I like the concept where utensils were served in lab apparatus with fruit juice as welcoming drink held in test tubes as our welcoming drink. IT just reminded me of the school days where we were doing some practical lessons in the science lab. However, not to the extend of putting them into our mouths. It was a good gesture of FFL to serve complimentary juices for tasting purposes and for those that are health conscious, you can order their fruit juices as an substitute to your soft drinks. As soon as we settled down they have served us with 2 kinds of juices in the test tubes namely: the cucumber orange and orange carrot.Besides serving the complimentary juices in test tubes, we were overwhelmed by the drinking water too, served in beakers. Have you ever drink anything from the beaker? For me I have not and that's my first time doing that.Even the utensils were placed in the tray. It felt as though some science experiment is starting soon. The ultimate drink for detox if this is what you are looking for. A mixture of fruit juice using lettuce, cucumber, spinach, lemon and apple, quite refreshing I felt. The hot and the ice mocha has a dollar difference in their pricing.I dont mind having anything messy like this especially when there were so many goodies on the plate. Scrambled eggs were truffle infused and were soft, good to pair along with their toasted english muffin, roasted sweet potatoes, bacon-wrapped pinepple, oxford sausages, roasted tomatoes and fruity salad.Soft and fluffy pancakes were infused with banana fragrance. It was topped with banana slices on a bed of apple paste. Drizzle them with some maple syrup and enjoy!I find that apple and banana on pancakes taste not bad afterall.Initially we had ordered the lychee cake but had cancelled it due to that we have no more stomach room for desserts. What a miss! The location of FFL may be a little inconvience for some but I would say its not really inaccessible as it is still within walking distance from the MRT Station. As for those who are driving, parking lots are limited along the streets. 繼續閱讀

Projecting itself to be a laboratory-themed cafe / bistro bar with a fruits-focused-food and drinks menu, Fresh Fruits Lab unfortunately (or fortunately) does not resemble a lab at all. Its chic interior was a beautiful monochromatic sleekness, boosting of clean-cut furnishing . To me, a laboratory is either stark white with glass panels or filled with rows of high, wooden tables with bunsen burners (do students still use these nowadays??The Mint Mocha (SGD$6.00) was a beautiful concoction that came in a beautiful golden foam tinged with green (of the mint?), and served with 2 pretty little marshmallows on the teaspoon. The mocha had a lovely nutty roast to its thick aroma, complemented smoothly by the cool minty flavour, so it made every mouthful a delight, even after the coffee turned cold. The Lychee Cake (SGD$6.50) looked so pretty, and it was being served on a "heirloom-style" plate, scoring full marks for presentation. The fork dug in immeidately after the camera finished its "feast". The cake was spongy soft; the thick white layer was like pudding, with a creamy taste to it; other than that, the cake was gentle in flavour and its level of sweetness; so gentle, that other than the lychee sitting atop the cake, one could not detect the aroma of lychee, and the pudding layer was overwhelming IMHO.Moving on was a happy piece of colourful cake - Rainbow Cake (SGD$7.00). The texture was not as soft as I would have preferred, but the taste was good. There were strong citrusy flavours; and if I am not wrong, berries ones as well, complementing the layers of mascarpone cream marvelously. For full review and more detailed information, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2015/10/afternoon-tea-at-fresh-fruits-lab.html 繼續閱讀

Fresh Fruit Lab or otherwise known as FFL, has been around the cafe scene for a good amount of time. FFL has differentiated themselves with a laboratory-inspired theme and fruits infused food/drinks menu. It’s conveniently located just a 5-10 mins walk away from Kembagan Station along the bustling Changi Road, attracting quite a decent number of crowds on a Saturday night. It’s a nice gesture for the staff to serve this complimentary rack of test tubes filled with fruit juices that can be found in the menu for tasting prior to placing our orders. At least we get to try the different flavors and order something we like best. To further enhance our experience in a laboratory-based cafe, water is served in beaker and juices/sodas are served in conical flasks. The juices concoctions are pretty unique and interesting bringing out the different characteristics of the different fruits and vegetables when they are mixed together. Three to Tango was one of my favorite, something zesty yet refreshing, the perfect drink for this hot summer. The one in the conical flask below was Passion Fruit Soda, its surprisingly cooling and refreshing with real mashed up passion fruits, somewhat tasted different from the usual soda that just mixes with syrup.Being the usual us having no idea what’s good to order, we decided to choose from a mixture of Chef’s Recommendations and Lab Bestsellers. First up was Truffle Fries ($12), neither a bestseller nor recommended by chef, but it’s like a must order, cause we have a crazy truffle fries fan among us. What makes a good Truffle Fries is definitely the presence and infusion of the truffle’s aroma and flavor coupled with hot crispy exterior of the shoestring fries. FFL’s truffle fries has definitely met 80% of the criteria.First Chef’s Recommendation’s of Masago Cavier Pasta ($20). Delicately plated with Baked Half Scallops topped with Sunny Quail Egg and Cavier Masago. Spaghetti was cooked to al dente, and wholesomely infused with the taste of Masago Cavier. Half Scallop was well seasoned and baked to perfection; not too hard and chewy but instead light on teeth. The dish is a little heavy on taste some might find, but this dish definitely suits my taste bud, someone who enjoy seafood and prefer food with heavier flavors!Next up, this Fish & Chip ($19) is FFL’s Bestseller! Generous and relatively big piece of Beer battered pacific dory served with shoestring fries and homemade tartare. The fish was thick, fresh and not crumbly. And i like how all their main dishes are accompanied with fruits infused salad that gives an additional sweetness to the overall dish.Like how the dish is named, Da Bomb Burger ($19), it’s really da bomb! In between the 2 toasted bun sits a juicy 250g beef patty with crunchy lettuce and tomatoes, crispy bacon and a runny sunny side up! It’s a total burst of flavor in the mouth. The balance from the lightness of the sunny side up and veggies paired with the flavorful beef patty, is simple yet awesome. With some stomach space left just for the dessert, we ordered both their Rainbow Cake ($7) and Lychee Cake ($6.50).I must admit their Rainbow Cake tasted a little different. The cake was moist and dense; Cream cheese that was used for layering was rather light and the different layers bring about a citrus taste to the palette. This Lychee Cake is another praise worthy piece of dessert. Delicate pure looking dessert that sits a big juicy lychee. The texture of the cake was pretty unique, the exterior is as though i am eating marshmallow, and within it is layers of these marshmallow and sponge cake. Light and fluffy with subtle sweetness. The best way to end off such a fulfilling dinner is definitely a cup of fruit infused tea to cleanse our palette and help us in our digestion.Overall, it was quite a pleasant dining experience in Fresh Fruit Lab. The ambiance and the quality of food served was superb. However, the downside was that the setting sun were shinning in at where we were sitting during the evening time which was quite a disturbance. Nevertheless, it’s a recommended place for a good chill!https://poohlovesfood.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/fresh-fruits-lab/ for the full review with pics. 繼續閱讀

Menu InteriorFruit Juices served in cute test tubes. They serve water in beakers too!We had:Truffle Fries - $12(Fries dipped with truffle oil served with truffle mayo dip)Noone can resist good old truffle fries. At $12, some may find this to be a litle pricey, but I felt that it was one of the better truffle fries I have had. I was sold to their truffle mayo dip too!Masago Caviar Pasta - $20(Baked half shell scallop topped with fresh quail egg and caviar masago)This caught our attention when the table beside us ordered it and nope, no regrets. The pasta was lightly tossed in aglio olio style and the scallops serbed were huge and really fresh. The quail egg added an amazing finishing touch with its broken yolk. A tad pricey, but high recommended!Messy Breakfast - $17(Truffle infused scrambled eggs on a toasted english muffin, roasted sweet potatoes, bacon-wrapped pineapple, oxford sausages, roasted tomato and fruity salad)I felt that their breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. The truffle scrambled eggs were too strongly scented and I felt that it was overpowering. The bacon-wrapped pineapples didn't catch my liking too. The only thumbs up were their oxford sausages! Fruity Berries - $17(Seasonal berries pancakes with apple compote and strawberries, drizzled with maple syrup)Loved this!!! One of the few pancakes I have had that infuses fruits into their pancakes. It was so fluffy and moist! Loved the batter that they used too. You should really try this, together with the Masago Caviar Pasta when you are there! Service:The servers knew that we wanted an indoor seat and was so attentive to our every need. The orders arrived really quickly too!Atmosphere:A really cosy cafe though it might get a little squeesy indoors. Outdoor seating is available too, though I wouldn't recommend it as it's just beside the dusty roadside and under this scorching heat.Atmosphere: 8/10Price: 7/10Food: 7/10Service: 8/10 繼續閱讀

After the good experience we had the week before, we decided to come back here to try their burgers. Da bomb burger would win an instagram competition for burgers if there was one! So I had to try it!1. Da Bomb Burger $19+For a 250g of beef patty, this sure is a huge burger, to finish this off as one person, you must be starving to death! The egg was running and it presented very nicely on an IKEA chopping board, the fries however were very salty. Both burgers came with super salty fries, my suggestion if you don't want to get bloated from drinking water from the beakers, is tell them LESS SALT on the fries.2. The Club Burger $19+The chicken was very juicy and succulent, it was very marinated and grilled. I enjoyed it as much as I had enjoyed the Da Bomb. Both are good choices for burgers here! The side salad had watermelon cubes in there, though they were not sweet, it was a refreshing change from the normal cucumbers. Both da bomb and the club seen side by side, they look normal sized, but in person, they're pretty huge. For the price, I find it reasonable.3. Red Velvet Cake 6.50+At 4pm on a saturday, this was already the last slice of red velvet cake, this goes to show how popular this cake is! It was moist and the cream cheese was slightly salty, the sweetness of the cream cheese was just alright, not too overpowering. But you could feel gerlat eating this cake all by yourself. So share the calories!4. Meatballs $10+$10+ for 6 meatballs, pretty pricey if you ask me, but the cheese was well baked over the meatballs. The meatballs were most probably deep fried before getting baked, as the exterior were really crispy! The marinara sauce for the meatball was perfect, pretty sure you could eat fries with this sauce too, it wasn't too salty.Water is served here in beakers an interesting touch for a "Lab"For each customer, you get one test tube of complimentary fruit juice, all the juices tasted weird and we couldn't tell what colour was what juice, even after tasting. Mostly because all were too diluted? The bill for our meal 繼續閱讀
