Came here for the vintage high tea that runs every Thursday and Friday afternoon. Overall it was a novel experience with all the food stands and plates being "vintage" designed. It's nothing like the crazy busy city that we've gotten so accustomed to and such a refreshing change to have some peace and quiet. While the ambience is indeed awesome (sitting outside makes you feel like you're on holiday without actually being on holiday), the food was a mixed bag of hits and misses. Service, whilst chirpy and smiley, wasn't super organised either. We had:1) Barracks Freeform Eggs ($21): a medley of scrambled eggs, chipolata sausages, mushroom ragout and cheesed up rose tomatoes . The sausages were the star attraction here, they were textured, juicy, spicy and totally delicious. We loved it. Practically fought over the last chunk. The eggs were fairly well done, light and fluffy. We liked the use of shimeiji mushrooms in the ragout but it could do with a smidge more salt.2) Roast Chicken ($26), spice-rubbed, was unimpressive. It would have been tonnes better if marinated longer. Apart from the sinfully tasty chicken skin, the flesh was disappointingly lacking in flavour. Recalling the long table filled with tiny bites surrounded by small Alice, the rabbit and many other characters with a whimsical touch to it, and how often the characters in Enid Blyton stories go for tea parties, childhood smells just so sweet. An exclusive tea party that's only available every Thursdays and Fridays, 3 to 6pm, I was rather surprised to see how crowded it was on a weekday afternoon, right up in the corner of inaccessible Dempsey. Well, perhaps it was the high expectations I had after seeing the decor, hearing so much raving reviews and seeing the crowd on an unassuming Thursday. I thought that this place didn't live up to its hype and expectations created. Nonetheless, I thought there was a pretty good spread, with savory treats so that it doesn't just favour the ladies with sweet tooth like most high tea places do.Out of the different sandwiches they had, I loved this the most! Duck meat with jam, the savory and succulent duck meat went extremely well with the slightly sweet spread. Great combination!This was quite good as well, almost like those you can find in good spaghetti meatballs. The sauce on top, though little, was flavourful enough to go round the tender soft meatball. Somehow it was thick enough that you feel as though it's been covered with that bolognaise sauce, slightly on the sourish tomato side, much to my liking.This is a must-try for all mushroom lovers, if you like the strong flavour of mushrooms. It was a rather love-hate relationship for me as I like the flaky crust and the textures inside but the mushroom taste was just too overpowering for me. It was almost the same as the mushroom soup I've tried at PoTeaTo, or maybe even stronger. Loved how they made the slight creamy mixture though!Just as we were too occupied taking photos of our food and ourselves, the friendly servers came and offered us these petite little madelines, and gosh! The only regret I had was not taking more at that time. Served fresh from the oven, it was warm and had a crispy outside, with soft and fluffy insides that made you crave for more. It had just a tinge of sweetness to it and had a rich buttery aroma to it, that got me addicted.And everything else from there just went downhill.Well, all these were just too creamy, with a super overdose of mayonnaise in it that made us feel rather jelat. I thought it would have been better too, if the foccacia had been slightly baked to give that extra crisp to the bite.Cold sandwiches just weren't my thing. And the spring roll was pretty out of place I thought. Nothing spectacular, just rearranged probably to look abit more fanciful.I've heard so much about skinny pizzas but haven't had the chance to. There's been very extreme reviews of skinny pizzas that always makes me hesitate at their doorsteps. First time trying, I must say I wasn't impressed at all and in fact, I was very disappointed. The crisp wasn't what I was looking for, and tasted as though it's been left in the open for a rather long time that the sauce from the toppings had seeped through and it lacked that oomph! in the sound of the crust cracking. It pretty much tasted like packaged potato chips, minus the salty condiments we usually have. The combination wasn't fantastic too, the best out of the lot was perhaps the squid ink, where the crust was slightly better and had a slight charcoal aroma to it. This won't get me to their skinny pizza store for sure.Cupcakes were too sweet, and the base's texture was kinda coarse for my liking. The tarts' crusts were too thick and weren't the crumbly type, tasted quite like the packaged sort of tart crusts. Eclairs were very disappointing, there was just too much flour and was extremely airy inside that there was probably only one strip of cream inside (just like what you see on the top). Plus it wasn't served chilled. In the tiny cup of pretty looking berries galore, it was filled with 70% cream, and just got too jelat after a while. The jam inside was also too sweet, the best part was perhaps the pistachio pieces on top. Best of the lot was the choco-nut ball, where it tasted very much like ferrero rocher, with different layers inside and it was a good mixture that wasn't too sweet and slightly chewy.The cakes weren't up to standard, too compact and bland. You couldn't exactly taste the distinct flavours of the cakes. The blueberry cheesecake wasn't too bad, could have been better with a drier base.They weren't as good as the previous one as it wasn't warm anymore, but the crispy outside still made me satisfied. The orange cake was such a disappointment, tasting just like a moister version of sponge cake. I was expecting a stronger zesty flavour of the citrus fruit to come forth but it was just hidden in the sweetness of the jam and cake. Forgot to take a snapshot of the other side of the cake, it had a rather coarse texture to it that didn't sit well with me at all. The two petite cups were just an epitome of how you shouldn't judge a dessert by its looks. As we were super dissatisfied with the standard of food served, we wanted to venture into their main menu to see if it was the same for their usual priced items instead of their free flow buffet.A little too adventurous for our own good, we gave up by the time we reached the third fry. The natural sweetness of the pumpkin couldn't be tasted at all and the first thing that struck us at the first bite was the strong taste of bad oil used in the frying. It left a somewhat bitter taste and it just got us rather sick soon after. Highly not recommended, in our opinion. I have my qualms going back there after a lacklustre experience with the tea party. We thought it was pretty much sub-standard and I would very much prefer the Four Seasons Hotel Dessert Buffet for a wider variety, less the savory items, at almost the same price or maybe lesser (priced at $18 when I last visited). I must say they've got a pretty attractive menu though, probably worth a shot if you happen to be around the area. It’s spacious and a seemingly okay place to chill. However, it was too noisy for me so I didn’t like it. Plus, I wasn’t feeling too good so the mood was just wrong for me. Way too noisy!!!!!!!!Truffle fries for $7. One word – expensive. I thought it’s some heavenly snack but no… they were pretty normal like mac’s fries. No doubt it had this weird taste like wasabi or what in it that I can’t describe, but the overall feel was just like any other normal fries after eating much of it. Tau sa pau for $2.50. Still on the expensive side but it’s one of the cheapest items in the menu already. Extremely soft, hot and fluffy so it’s a good bite. Came to house at dempsey to try our their vintage high tea. The good thing about this tea is that they have both savory and sweet items so there is variety of flavours and you don't get sick of eating too much sugary stuff. The mini burgers were pretty good in terms of flavour however the meat was abit overcooked and was quite dry, luckily ketchup managed to salvage the burger slightly! House at dempsey has a vintage high tea buffet every Thursday and Friday afternoon. The ambience is really unique with lots of vintage cutlery and display stands! The cakes and sandwiches are all placed on antique books to give the buffet line an antique feel. Overall food quality is acceptable, however range of savory foods are not very extensive, and replenished items tend to change.…查看更多

House: Vintage Tea PartyThis place is definitely the place for tai tai wannabe like me.House, located at Dempsey is a little bit isolated but who knows that actually all the good food are there, many different types of cuisine restaurant lies quietly in this remote place but luckily I had direct bus.FYI Vintage Tea Party is only available on Thursday and Friday 3 pm to 5.30pm. For most of the time it will remain as a fine dining restaurant.It was located quite inside and you have to walk down the steps to reach it, from outside it doesn't look very grand until you opened the door, you will understand why they named it a Vintage Tea Party.It’s the exact place where you might picture olden princess holding some porcelain teapot and flask, and they really do have those. Decoration and accessories, everything seems so vintage, including their toilet as well. Service was good and place is clean having nice ambience to sit and chit chat with friends, dreaming about being taitai. It’s really interesting to be in one of their vintage tea party, the crowd was alright, but I will urge to go down exactly at 3 pm because it’s mostly light food so you probably need a few rounds before you are done. Not to mention that the food there are really tasty.For those who love dessert you’re in for a good treat because desserts take up more than half of its meal in this vintage tea party. Beside desserts, they also have some bread and pizza if you’re hungry.My top favourite desserts would be the little desserts in the cup(Picture3), all 3 of them tasted superbly nice! Especially the one that looks like egg shell, it tasted like custard with a little sugar casing over it, absolutely awesome. Next would be the banana swiss roll that I took like more than 10? I regret not taking more though, Banana swiss roll is soft and spongey, rolled the fresh of banana, perfect combination. Cupcakes are considered average for me and quite commonly seen outside.It’s quite funny that this vintage tea party has curry chicken but it's really nice, the tender chicken added lot of points for their curry. Their mushroom skinny pizza and squid ink pizza wasn't bad however the mushrooms are slightly salty but I like it when layered on top of the skinny pizza neutralizing the saltiness.It would be much better if their variety get even more, like all kind of desserts all over the world, because there is only like 2 tables of desserts and 1 table for breads, another for cookies and biscuits but their food was really great, would totally bring friends to come again for some taitai's session! House @ Dempsey is one of the many eating establishments offering a touch of fine dining at Dempsey but always tries to retain the homely touch of comfort food. The menu offers quite a varied selection of fusion cuisine - Western techniques infused with Asian dishes and vice versa.I shared in a couple of appetizers: Sweet Corn Soft Shell Crab and Truffle Fries.The soft shell crab was served deep fried with a sweet corn puree and sprinkled with curry popcorn. The plating looked immaculate but I couldn't say the same for the taste. The crab was served cold, and the batter no longer had the crisp of fried goodness. Novel though the idea of serving popcorn maybe, they did not quite deliver in the taste department - all I could get was a slight aftertaste of paprika.With the truffle fries, it was simple yet satisfying. Thick potato fingers deep fried and flavoured generously with salt and white truffle oil is just comfort food at its best.It was really the House Rib Eye Steak that finished off the night on a high note for me. The generous cut of steak was juicy and tender, drizzled generously with a gooseberry portwine sauce and served with artichokes and broccolini on the side.With a group of 4 sharing 3 appetizers, 1 main course and a drink each, the bill came up to about $250 for the night. But that's probably Dempsey standards for you. This is " Caring Carrots " which contains carrot, celery and beet. It costs $8.50 dollars and it is creamy when i drank it. But i believe it is being made out of real fruits which they blend the fruits with milk and others and it came out this way. This is OJ aka Orange Juice which is a thick type of juice they gave. It is very nutritional because it contains alot of Vitamin C which is good for our body protection and health. And you can get this cup over there at the price of $6! And you would not regret for the choice of this because you can also get alert by drinking this. This is a nice place whereby friends gathered for brunch or meals in the afternoon. I liked the whole place because it is surrounded with trees.This one for sweeth tooth whereby it is called "Churros" in Spanish. It is a type of donuts whereby the chef fried till golden brown and they served with a generous dusting of icing sugar. They gave chocolate for us to dip inside! It is perfect and warm. This is mozzarella cheese and tomato crispy pizza from thin pizza! The cheese is not what you see outside, those melting warm type. However it tasted mild and it is not very cheesy. This is the most extremely pancake i have ever since in my life! It is of 7 pieces high, and look ! It is beautifully decorated and so colourful! (: I simply think it is gorgeous by the look of appearance, makes me hold on and not eat it!Shared among 3 person.It contains different type of rasins, there's mulberry too! And simply alot of nuts, i think there's pistachoi too! wow. haha, because pistachoi is not normally put into food and consume. Went for my appointment at the Beauty Emporium at the second level of the Dempsey House. Who knows right after my treatment, it started raining cats and dogs. We took the staircase down and entered right into the Barracks cafe for shelter. So since we were there already, might as well ordered something light for High-Tea. We entered the cafe by the back entrance so nobody really noticed us until we were sited down at a table we choose. Then, a waitress realised that we were not being served yet and quickly brought us our menu. I ordered a warm chocolate toffee cake and iced nougat but the iced nougat was not available. Was abit disappointed. However when the warm chocolate toffee cake was served and the moment I took a bite of it, I was a happy gal once again. The cake is filled with toffee and poured over with warm chocolate toffee fudge. There's also 3 raspberry on top.Bf ordered their Barracks freeform eggs. The poached egg taste a bit sour though. We ordered and shared another of their famous dish - Tempeh and Cajun Chicken sandwich. It comes with the truffle fries. This is a healthy dish, as the meat is lean, chunky and juicy. The barracks cafe and camp bar is a really nice place with an interesting name!Decided to drop by after recommendations from my friends, and boy was i glad! The food here is fabulous. Deep Sea ThreesomeA seafood fan's dream. This dish came with fresh calamari, prawns, and mussels grilled and marinated with a special pineapple sauce. Fantastic!Smoked Turkey SwissThis skinny pizza is a really special dish, with a crispy, cracker like crust. This pizza had a topping of turkey and ham, yummy!
