It was a quick dinner before a meeting. I happened to be seated right in front of this stall. It was out of convenience that i decided to order from this stall. I decided to try the Ayam Penyet for the first time. The set is for $4.20. The stall was manned by a lady all by herself. She was counting her cash when i was there. She signalled that i wait a bit. After she hung up, a someone came by to pay her and to collect the take away orders. Then, i finally gotta order. She placed the pre-fried chicken drumstick into the deep fryer and fried it for a bit before retrieved it and smashed a little to give it the 'penyet' texture. She placed it on the tray with the brown paper on it and topped with handful of fried batter to add to its crispiness. She then scooped the rice and placed 2 slices of cucumber by the side. It was served along with a bowl of soup. I was expected to choose between the 2 types of chilli placed right there and to self-service it. The presentation of the set was a boring one. I would expect it to serve with tau kwa or tempeh or even with a piece of lettuce or tomato. First mouthful of the chicken was unexpectedly pleasant. It has got a slight warmth and tasted slightly crispy. Importantly, it did not taste greasy. It was nicely marinated to give a delightful flavor. The texture of chicken was rather tender and flavorful despite its unappetizing appearance. The rice was nicely cooked to give it the light and fluffy texture. The chilli tasted sweet and not as spicy as compared to others. While eating, there was a few other customers ordered there. It seems this is a popular stall in this coffee shop. Though not the best choice but the Chicken tasted nice enough to make it a worthy choice. 繼續閱讀
