Impromptu dinner with buddy on one of the weekdays. We decided to have dinner at Orchard Central shopping mall which is walking distance from Somerset MRT station. Kilo & Pact was my choice that night as I was attracted with their unique combination of food, hair salon & fashion retail shop.We went there after 7.30pm and most of the seats are taken. Impromptu dinner with buddy on one of the weekdays. We decided to have dinner at Orchard Central shopping mall which is walking distance from Somerset MRT station. Kilo & Pact was my choice that night as I was attracted with their unique combination of food, hair salon & fashion retail shop.

We went there after 7.30pm and most of the seats are taken. So the only option we have is the seats at the bar and seats facing the view of the orchard streets. We of course choose the seats that facing the orchard streets. I love looking through the glass seeing the cars moving and people walking down the streets.

 The foods are fushion combination of Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine. The dishes are quite modern which takes on the traditional of both cuisine. We had

Baked Salmon @S$28.00.Salmon with white wine mushrooms and wasabi mash. Wasabi mash sound interesting for me so I decided to give it a try. I can’t taste much of the wasabi taste though. But the salmon was nicely done.

 Balsamic Duck @S$29.00.Duck leg with butter potato mash and sesame asparagus. The mash was in chunky side and we enjoyed having it together with the sauce for the dish.The duck meat texture was moist and tender and compliments well with the side dishes.

 We ordered Hitachino Pale Ale beer to try. A bottle costs S$15.00 each and we had 2 bottles that night. The beer tasted fairly bitter taste and slightly sweet malt flavour at the edge of sip. The beer isn’t too gassy too.

 In terms of services, the staffs are not so attentive. We had difficulties having attention from them throughout the dinner. Neverthless the staff does greet us with a smile all the time.

Overall dinner was S$102.40 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% service charge. Slightly pricey for the meal but the lighting of the restaurant gives a soft touch of cosy feeling to customers especially for couples.So if you are looking for a cosy atmosphere dinning place, Kilo Pact would be one of the choice.

A quick post. 3 of us had dinner after movie at kilo at pact on 21.11.2013. Nothing much to be said about this place. It's a place I would not go & would not go back. That’s just me & my choices. Nothing wrong with the place. Guess it is kind of hip. kilo is co-located with a boutique fashion? retail shop & a salon. no idea what is “pact” in the name? food i guess is jap-western?The belly pork don was pretty good & tasty actually. it was very small portion – 1 friend said “jiak boy pa” (not fill

A quick post. 3 of us had dinner after movie at kilo at pact on 21.11.2013.

Nothing much to be said about this place. It's a place I would not go & would not go back. That’s just me & my choices. Nothing wrong with the place. Guess it is kind of hip. kilo is co-located with a boutique fashion? retail shop & a salon. no idea what is “pact” in the name? food i guess is jap-western?

The belly pork don was pretty good & tasty actually. it was very small portion – 1 friend said “jiak boy pa” (not filling) – & cost S$17++=S$20nett.

The belly pork was soft, just slightly sinewy (not the texture i like) unlike the smooth texture of dongporou or kongbakpao. the braising sauce which was also drizzled over the rice was slightly sweet (japanese style) & made it quite tasty. so it was good actually but a “nothing” kind of meal for me, like a foodcourt dish but good tasting & cost S$20. not something i would try myself & certainly not go back. however the place maybe hip or cool & people may like it. cannot tell.

Brunch or Lunch?

I always have doubts about the food from any shop that is based on the concept of food and fashion retail. However, Kilo@Pact is an exception case because the food, especially those from the brunch menu are truly delicious. That said Though it was meant to be a brunch gathering, we ended having more ala carte items then brunch items. 1st reason was because brunch service is only available after 12.30pm although the restaurant opens at 11.30am. 2nd, the brunch menu had only 5 items.For full post,

 So to fill up time (and stomach), we ordered some items from the regular menu section called "Small Plates". The Baby Eggplant ($12) did not wow at the first bite because the egg plants were bland. But the dish miraculously hit the jackpot when the mascarpone cheese, bonito flakes and donburi sauce were mixed into a mess.

 The following two dishes were quite normal and did not excite me. The Ahi Mango Poke with Deep fried Wanton skin$16 is raw tuna mixed with cucumber, shallots and mangoes to be self-filled into the wanton shells. The Salmon Avocado Sushiro ($15) is rolled up sushi served with Niigata rice served with plain-tasting soy flaxseed chips. I would skip this dish because it fell short of flavours.

 But the highlight of the day to me was the dish that I had picked with another dessert fan-The Banana Bites ($12). This was not your average French toast as it is so moist with cotton-like softness. Bananas have been mixed into the batter, which was already sweet enough so the maple syrup was rather unnecessary.

 At the same time, I really liked the Portobello Benedict ($21) because the black giant fungi worked amazingly well with the piquant buttermilk-mozzarella sauce that was smeared on toasted English muffin. I did not know what “secret ingredient” the chef put inside but the taste was interesting, especially when you have everything in a one mouthful......

Kilo is markedly obvious on the extreme left of the entrance when you first walk in, where the seating area is, while the right side has a long wooden display showcasing pieces from the K.I.N. line and the hair salon is just short flight of stairs away.

The furniture used at Kilo are mostly made of concrete, used in its untreated roughness, maintaining that stony hardness for a rustic touch while a few tall cactus plants take centre stage in a rectangular planter that is sitting right smack in the middle of all the dining tables. Full height clear glass windows form the perimeter, allowing natural light to flow through and the whole vibe exuded is so raw yet polished, it is an enigma that is simply chilled, laidback and almost soothing.

 We tried 2 items from the Weekend Brunch menu when we dropped by on a Sunday afternoon.

Portobello Benedict $21

Not your regular Eggs Ben, it is instead, a play on the usual brunch classic. The English muffin at the bottom is topped with that huge juicy portobello, followed by sweet sauteed caramelized onions, baby spinach and the overlaying sauce of buttermilk with melted mozzarella and a hint of truffle. Accompanied with a side of golden brown fries seasoned with a dash of black pepper and salt, it is simply everything you want and need on a breakfast plate.

 Banana Bites $12

The perfect name for this dish because it is just bananas with every bite. Dont order it if you are not a fan of bananas. But then again, who isnt? Yet another twist on your usual french toasts, the people here at Kilo really do not like doing things the conventional way. They have instead incorporated sliced bananas in between every layer of toast before frying. And when biting into it is just pure goodness of gooeyness and sweetness from those softened bananas and that absolute necessary drizzle of maple syrup. Throw in a couple more fresh banana slices on the top and cut strawberries for garnishing, it is a pretty sweet picture.

 Raw's Lava Cake + Basil Gelato $9

Curious about how Basil Gelato would taste like, we could not resist picking this flavour for our ice-cream of choice to match our chocolate lava cake. The cake hit the right notes of a good lava cake, with good quality rich chocolate used that flowed on command of cutting through it. Our views on the Basil Gelato however, were divided. A few found it refreshing, interesting and commented that it had a hint of mint in it while the others and I thought that it was simply frozen pesto which to be honest, did not taste too enticing. I was not a big fan of the Basil Gelato and will keep safe with my usual flavours in future.

 In short, Kilo @ PACT is an elegant lovely space to explore. This 3-in-1 collaboration comprising of a cafe, boutique and hair salon will give you plenty to discover and browse. While it does not get too crowded at the moment, I know that once word gets out about the quirky nature of this place, many will be keen to check it out. So avoid the crowds and schedule a visit soon. The food is definitely worth the trip.

Having wandered Orchard Central many times, I had come across this little concept store tucked away in a corner and was intrigued. It sold clothes and other 'designer/tumblr-ish' items, but had a food area as well, so I decided to give it a try one lunch break. The setup was simple but classy, with wooden blocks for chairs and a bar area for people eating alone. The menu was a simple one, with rice dishes (like japanese dons), sushi rolls and ciabatta sandwiches. There was also a lunchs set going on, a drink and a sandwich/rice bowl for $15, and we went for that- I took the salmon and avocado ciabatta, while my friend took the wagyu beef rice bowl.

My sandwich arrived...slightly late I felt, but it's prettiness in presentation made up for it.

 Very smart of them to cut with the cross section showing, I love veggies so it looked REALLY good. When I bit into it, the ciabatta crust was crisp and lightly toasted but not hard, and the filling of salmon (which was rather generous i felt) complemented the creamy avocado, while the rocket, onion and cucumber added a crunch and sweetness. There was also a sort of tangy dressing which I couldn't place but really enjoyed.

My friend's beef rice came soon after; compared to mine, his seemed much less.

 Either way, he seemed to enjoy his meal, and complimented the beef slices as juicy and done just nice- the edges were seared well, but the middle was still slightly pink, making it not overdone and thus chewy.

Overall, it was a nice lunch, but it certainly was not the most filling lunch nor the most value-for-money one that I've had. It's great for the ambience and cool chill vibe, but I don't think I'd be returning soon.

Located on the far side of Orchard Central away from 313 Somerset, floor-length windows afford unobstructed views of Killiney and resident bar KPO. Diners have the choice of normal tables or counter seats along the bar or windows. The latter might offer better views, but are slightly lacking in terms of maneuverability with diners jammed packed less than an elbow's length away.

Given the posh surroundings and classy layout, I was really relieved to find that Kilo offered a lunch set menu at $15++ which included a Citrus Iced Tea along with your choice off the menu of mains, just a smaller serving.

The Beef Short Ribs Rice Bowl offered with the set lunch was petite at best. But what it lacked in portion size, it made up with flavour. The star was definitely the luscious slices of beef short ribs.

Beautiful, pink and juicy, they were served atop a bowl of fragrant Niigata rice with a side of sweet corn, a salad of radish and sugar peas and some wasabi sprouts. Then you wash them all down with a cool clear concoction of iced tea.

At $17.50 after taxes, it's probably one of the pricier lunches in town. I probably would not convert into a regular just because of the price alone, but it sure is a delight for the palate.

Loved the bahn mi and salmon roll, both reminiscent of comfort food on a stressful day. The flavours are well-balanced and outstanding, the result of the perfect marriage of Viet and Jap cuisine.

    Prices here are affordable and offers good value for the quality of its food.
