I love the Korean food at kim dae mun. it is so cheap and the portion is a lot. My favourite is the spicy chicken soup with rice. you get to choose a side dish to go along with it. the portion of the chicken inside the soup is a lot. Inside got a lot of toufu and tang hoon. They also added a lot of vegetable in. very healthy!

Dinner time : Waited about 7 minutes in queue. Queue was long but cleared fast b the korean lady boss mending the cashier's. Waited for another 15 minutes for the food. The beef kimchi soup was cooked much faster than the hotplate items. I overheard someone who mentioned about waiting for 20 minutes!Soup wise, it is indeed spicy but not that spicy. The portion is okay and they were not stingy with their ingredients

i been having tuition at the nearby tuition centre a couple of years back, everytime we have lunch break, we would head over to the food court and enjoy yummy korean food there. this vendor have been here for a long long time and just lately i was craving for korean food and decided to pop by to try my luck and see if they were still around and they were!

what i love most is their korean chicken, the marinate they use is simply delicious, they use water to cook instead of oil which makes it alot healthy. the place cabbage strips under the chicken on the hot plate, the cabbage strips will tend to soak up the gravy of the chicken, it is just so delicious eating the cabbage strips itself with rice not to mention the chicken. the chicken is so tender and it is cut into small slices. despite being called spicy chicken set, the chicken is not spicy at all, just a slight tinge.

the bibimbab is really good, know as the stonepot mixed rice, the stong pot keeps the rice hot at all times. for the vege lovers, this is a dish u must order, it has alot of different kinds of vegetables. u can choose between chicken or beef to add into ur bibimbab. the bibimbab sauce is different from th normal korean chilli sauce we eat, it is wholelot thicker somewhat like a pasta. they normally give u one saucer but that is enough to coat all the rice and ingredients.

they also have fried tang hoon or fried udong korean style. the noodles or tanghoon comes out very moist and not dry at all. they are quite generous with the meat that is added inside. the gravy taste very taste and if suitable for children or elderly as the tang hoon is really soft and they dun need to chew so much.

the korean rice cake is a killer! the rice cake is so chewy that u sometimes get tired from chewing. the gravy is red in colour looking very spicy but it is not as spicy as u think. the gravy is very thick and taste, and they are very generous in their portion.

u get to choose one side dish to go with ur food, instead of the normal 2 miserable portions u get outside. however they portion is alot more than the 2 u get outside!

the food is very worth it and economical. u dun pay less that $10 to get a meal of authentic korean food outside.

Kim Dae Mun is one of the few Korean food stalls in food courts that are worth their salt. Conveniently located at the food court in Concorde Hotel (previously known as Le Meridien Hotel), it is also one of the few eateries in Orchard which manage to provide tasty meals at wallet-friendly prices. Naturally, it is no wonder that this authentic Korean food stall draws snaking queues at lunchtime and dinnertime.

Though a tad oily, the crisp Potato Pancake ($3.50) is pretty tasty when eaten with the tangy vinegar dip provided.

While Ddukbokki is a popular street food in Korea, I'm not a fan of the soft and chewy texture of the cylindrical rice cakes. Nevertheless, the Spicy Korean Rice Cakes ($4.50) dish was admittedly well-executed, comprising rice cakes cooked to the right degree and gravy that was not overwhelmingly sweet or cloying. This dish is also not for those averse to spicy food, for the sweet Gochujang sauce definitely packed lots of fire.

Like the other hotplate dishes served at Kim Dae Mun, the Spicy Chicken Set ($6.50) is cooked using water and not oil, making it an ideal choice for the health-conscious. Satisfying tender and well-marinated, the boneless chicken slices were spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. I also loved the sweet onion slices which took on a whole new taste dimension when simmered with sauce on the hotplate.

Every hotplate set also comes along with a bowl of fluffy and fragrant short-grain rice (served in a metal bowl!), soup, as well as a side dish. I have yet to try the spicy pickled cucumber, but I always opt for the fried anchovies over the kimchi, which lacks punch.

I had a sudden craving of spicy rice cakes these days. This was a brief encounter with this restaurant. I was walking from dhoby to orchard then I felt hungry (I always do anyways. I was walking from dhoby to orchard then I felt hungry (I always do anyways. My tummy is an endless bottom pit) so my friend told me there's this korean restaurant inside Concorde hotel (we were passing by) and it's owned by koreans.

So i thought, it should be pretty authentic! And I was having this tokbeokki fever so in the end I gave up my diet and bought it.

I ordered & it costs $4.50. Quite ex since it's more of a snack rather than a meal, and I scanned the menu. Most of their meal prices are about $5-6.50 respectively.

Then I knew why it was more expensive than others: it was a whole bowl with overload of sauce and one egg! hhahahaah so there you go. The rice cake was absolutely squishy and delicious and the sauce was overloaded. It's a tad spicy so it's just nice!
I guess it was a more upgraded version than most places. I know the one in novena has & it sold for $3, but I never bother to try since it's in a rather small package (i'm a big eater! HOHOHO).

It occupies the biggest stall, so it is definitely promising with the other meals, with the cashier lady being the owner and is korean.

Another proof to come here and try: they got a whole page boards with old news clippings saying that THIS RESTAURANT/CHEF HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE LIKE, 20 years?!

I'm not sure there, but that's for your homewerk dear readers.
that ends my chewy spicy rice cake journey 1!
