The outlet has been around since 1957 but will be closing on 28 March which is tomorrow, due to lack of manpower, rising rentals and high food costs. Since the new of its pending closure is reported in the papers, there has been a lot of people visiting the outlet. Today the department decides to buy takeaway at this outlet for lunch. There is at least 40 people queuing in front of us when we reach there. Quite long but everyone are patient in waiting for their turn. For my packet of lunch, it costs $5. The food tastes not bad and not too spicy too. Too bad it will be closing down. 繼續閱讀

I used to eat here more where my children were younger (meaning i was younger & had more capacity for carbo & cholesterol) & also buy back for home gatherings.the food was more expensive in recent years but still good. i had a few meals at the nasi padang stall at tanjong pagar railway station which was also good and a lot cheaper before it closed (wonder where it moved to?).my sis had wanted to try this stall again so we came early at 11am+ on 23.1.2014. still empty but they filled up quite quickly. we ordered 6 dishes for 3pax, cost S$25.the curries were good as usual, but the both chicken & beef stomach curries while fragrant were really much too salty. the assam fish (ikan tenggiri) was excellent, with slight sour kick. the sotong (squid) in tomato sauce was great to. and the 2 vege, lady fingers & egg plants were very good.it was a really nice meal, slightly much for 3pax lunch, so S$25 i guess was quite ok really. hawker food can be expensive too these days.See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/01/24/nice-lunch-nasi-padang-river-valley-at-zion-road-on-23jan2014/ 繼續閱讀

I always come to this stall to have my favourite deep fried chicken. For only $4, I get to enjoy this quite generous portion of fried chicken and I enjoy dipping it with the sweet chilli sauce. The chicken meat is very soft and tender, and is really flavourful. The crispy chicken skin really enhance the taste of this simple dish and if you love to take spicy food, their sweet chilli sauce will be able to satisfy you. Very spicy and the slight sourness in it make it very appetizing. Stall helpers are friendly and stall is clean as well. 繼續閱讀

(Note: Pictures can be found here http://wildchildurbancity.blogspot.sg/2013/04/nasi-padang-river-valley.html)Even though Nasi Padang River Valley (NPRV) is a little tucked away along Zion Road so that passer-bys might not even know it serves nasi padang, many Singaporeans seem to know of it. I do not remember how we got to know of NPRV or when we first started having their nasi padang, but mom has been "da pao-ing" from NPRV occasionally for at least the past 10 years.ieatishootipost was told by the 2nd generation owner of NPRV that most of the dishes are from Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, but "have been have all been modified to suit the local tastebuds and in particular, the local Chinese palate", resulting in the food tasting "generally milder and sweeter instead of salty and spicy as it is back home".If you eat at NPRV, you will find that the dishes are definitely and starkly sweeter compared to Malay and Indonesian nasi padang, and are very, very much milder (to me at least).NPRV's assam fish curry is usually a dish mom orders for herself because she likes fish. The assam curry is generally not too bad and lends good flavour to the mackeral. Submerged in the curry are slivers of soft, naturally sweet onion that are a joy when found. The sambal brinjal tastes average and is oily, so you may want to save your calories for something else.We usually order the chicken curry instead of the chicken korma, because pretty much nothing can beat Rendezvous Restaurant's chicken korma. But the time I ordered NPRV's chicken korma for a change, it was a total lacklustre. It is a bit funny that the sambal sotong is called sambal sotong, because I cannot taste any sambal in it. The gravy has more of a tomato-tasting base that is quite sweet for nasi padang standards. Yet, I think that this is one of NPRV's best dishes, because of the delicious gravy, and is one of the dishes that calories should be spent on. Whenever we "da pao" the sambal sotong, I reuse the leftover gravy on boiled meat or veggies for flavour. As for the sotong itself, pity that it is usually a little rubbery and overcooked.Again, the style of NPRV's beef rendang is very different from normal nasi padang beef rendang in that it is obviously more sweet than savoury, and is only the littlelest bit spicy. Despite its usually-tender chunks of beef (but with little tendon unfortunately), I prefer my rendang savoury, bitingly spicy, and.. well, simply Tambuah Mas style.Fortunately the chicken curry is not as sweet as the beef rendang because having an array of sweet nasi padang dishes makes the tastebuds bored. Anyhow, as the gravy has always been a little too watery for my taste, I usually have only the chicken meat and do not drink the curry gravy. NPRV's sayur lodeh is standard and acceptable, but I would reserve my stomach space for something else unless you need veggies. On the whole, NPRV's nasi padang is somewhat acceptable for trying out or when you run out of nasi padang places to eat at. I would not elevate it to the rank of staple like I do Tambuah Mas and Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang. 繼續閱讀

Originally wanted to go to Zion Road Hawker for lunch but decided on this coffeeshop instead since it was near my illegally parked car. The place is clean and airy, thats a good start. The ordering station itself has two sections, one more for meats and the other for vege and eggs. Good variety i must say from fish to 2 different style of chicken, sotong etc. I ordered the sambal fried fish, sambal egg, tempeh and brinjal. Total cost was $5.50, pretty typical of popular nasi padang stalls.i like the fried fish and sambal egg a lot as its was tasty yet not overly spicy. I actually see neighboring tables most people prefer to order separate dishes to share and boy they do order quite alot. Definitely return to this place to try again. 繼續閱讀
