If you like beef kway teow, then I recommend a visit to Prince Coffee House. Formerly situated at Coronation Plaza, Prince Coffee House shifted to a more spacious place but this has less of a old-school atmosphere. The food itself remains not too bad. The beef kway teow has lots of wok-hei and the beef itself was the fatty bits of it which made chewing a little hard.

Prince Coffee House 太子咖啡座 has been in operation since the 1970s. It first started out in Shaw House, before moving to Coronation Plaza and now Beach Road. It is located just a few units away from Blanco Prawn Noodle. If you are observant, you will notice that the owner and some of the staff serving looks like those in the photos (in their younger days of course).In terms of decoration, its quite unique. Simple and quiet place away from the bustling city. Set Lunch Menu from 11am to 3pm. No worries if none of items on the set menu are your cup of tea. There are lots of a la carte dishes to order such as Hor Fun, Rice, Mee, Western and Chinese dishes. You can top up S$4 to the a la carte dishes to make them into set meal (inclusive of soup, garlic bread, drink and dessert).I ordered the Fried Beef Hor Fun $6.80 and topped up $4 to make it a set meal.The Garlic Bread was a let down. They should have toasted it before serving and the garlic flavour was mild..Creamy soup with slices of button mushroom and small chunk of chicken. Too thick and creamy for my liking. What a disappointing start to the meal. Just as I was losing hope, the next dish wowed me. The Fried Beef Hor Fun was delish! It taste so much better than how it looks like in the picture. The Hor Fun was very well fried the flavour of smoky wok-hei infused in it. The generous amount of beef given was soft and very tender. In addition, the delectable sauce enhanced the taste further. This has got to be one of the best Hor Fun in Singapore!I have read online about how popular that their Yam cake was. Hence, I was excited when the Yam Cake was given as part of the dessert. But I was not impressed, the yam flavour was not robust enough. A forgettable dish.I am not too impressed thus far. I will have to try their other a la carte dishes to get a better conclusion. The next time I come, I will probably skip topping up $4 to make it a set meal and just order the Fried Beef Hor Fun or some other a la carte dishes such as their chicken chop.

Came here for the beef hor fun and it was pretty good! Not the best but better than many restaurants. However it still lacks the wok hei flavour that would have otherwise made it outstanding.While the beef hor fun is not bad, the hainanese pork chop wasnt fantastic. It was too sweet, too much ketchup, lacks the oomph! The tomato sauce unfortunately masks the taste of the pork chop.

Operating way back in the 1970s, prince coffee house sure had a long history up till now. After some recommendation, i decided to order the lamb chop for myself. The lamb was really soft and tender, with the flavours in it. And i was surprised that there were not lamb smell in it.

My friend suggested this makan place and I went on-line to read the reviews but it was a real disappointment when we were over there. I tried to call (number as per yellowpages) to make a reservation but there was no answer before that. Hence when we will finally there at beach road and we made a reservation for 6 pax (4 adults 2 kids) since it was still early for dinner. We went back at the reserved time and there was no seat (seems to be first come first served) and as it was pretty crowded and there was only one combined table (already seated) that can accommodate 6 pax, we had no choice but to sit in separately tables.We started ordering at 6.30pm. The tables that we sat were not cleared immediately and we had to chase the staffs to clear. After clearing, the cutleries were not placed and drinks not served. Seeing the staffs so busy, we decided to get the cutleries and the drinks from the fridge on our own. We patiently waited for our dishes to come. The first dish was served 10 mins later and second dish 20 mins later. As the kids dishes were not served yet, we kept chasing and finally the kids' dishes were served 30 mins later. We kept chasing for the 2 other dishes as the 4 of them had already finished their food, still left 2 more dishes. We waited for another one hour till 7.30pm for the balance 2 dishes and finally we decided to cancel and they immediately said it was cooked and will be served shortly. Finally the balance 2 dishes came around 7.45pm. Since it was so crowded and so many people were waiting for seats and food, our other friends left early so as to make space for others to seat and left me and my friend to eat since our dishes only came 1 hour later.We ordered 1 salmon, 1 chicken chop, 1 sweet and sour fish, 1 beef hor fun, 2 fish n chips and it costs us $82 including service charges. All the dishes did not taste especially good as per the written reviews or recommended by the TV shows and it was in fact not value for money indeed. I do not expect service charges of almost $8 when customers still need to self-services, and in fact, some dishes were served at the wrong tables and dishes came at different timing for the same table. I had not waited food for more than 1 hour after being seated. With such unpleasant experiences and paying such high prices, I reckon we can go to other places that cost lesser and expect at least a acceptable service than here. Wondering how can they name themselves "Coffee House", when customers need to self-services and dishes were always served wrongly and even the staffs themselves were not familiar with the table number and always need to look at the table number when taking orders.
