Tai Parfait (多美歌)

Located just behind the escalators is tai parfait. I have been to their outlets at Bugis, Vivocity and now Plaza Singapura, and I'm glad to say that they all have consistent standards.

Taiyaki is actually a Japanese fish-shaped pancake traditionally filled with sweet red bean paste. However, Tai-parfait can be enjoyed with a taste that is not only filled with bean paste, but also fruits, ice cream, whipping cream and various topping.

And, you can get the sensational taste of the hot taiyaki and cold ice cream at the same time! It is a fusion of Japanese and Western dessert.

When I was in Yokohama, I tried the same tai-parfait, we ordered via a vending machine which gave you a receipt. The staff would then decorate the taiyaki that had already been pre-cooked and left on a rack to cool down. So I'm glad to say that Singapore's tai-parfait is one-notch better than in Japan in the sense that the taiyakis are cooked to order!

Sounds interesting, I might just have to try it, the next time I'm at Plaza Singapura.

1. Azuki Matcha Tai Parfait $5.50

After you have picked a taiyaki, the staff will ask you to pick a filling. Having tried all 4 flavours – azuki (red bean), matcha, custard cream and chocolate, matcha is still my favourite. However, do note that all their fillings have an eggy taste.

I love the matcha ice cream and that it is served with a warm topping of red bean paste. The matcha cream is sweet and yet you can still taste the slight bitterness of the matcha. Take your selfies and pictures quickly, as the ice cream melts pretty fast on top of the freshly cooked taiyaki.

2. Strawberry Tai Parfait with soft serve ice cream $5.90

The huge strawberry crowning the top is the highlight. The soft serve ice cream tasted like a sweeter version of the McDonald's soft serve ice cream. Along with a chocolate stick, it is probably one of their prettiest tai parfait on the menu. I too had this filled with matcha cream and it was delightlful. The taiyaki itself was crisp on the exterior and on the inside, a slight almond fragrance and chewy interior with matcha cream is heavenly.

What's special about tai parfait is that it is made of Premium Almond Powder which makes them soft like a dough and yet crispy.
