I was there on a quiet Saturday for lunch. I chatted with the Uncle lightly. I asked him, 'This stall used to be at the already demolished Blanco Court a long time ago right?'. The eyes of Uncle brightened as he nodded his head. He asked, 'So, you remember us?' I said, 'I was very young then though could not quite remember the stall name but i always remember the plate of wanton noodle that came with many pieces of wantons.' I was there on a quiet Saturday for lunch.

I chatted with the Uncle lightly. I asked him, 'This stall used to be at the already demolished Blanco Court a long time ago right?'. The eyes of Uncle brightened as he nodded his head. He asked, 'So, you remember us?' I said, 'I was very young then though could not quite remember the stall name but i always remember the plate of wanton noodle that came with many pieces of wantons.' He said, 'My wife usually just threw the wantons in without counting the exact amount.' I said, 'I remember Auntie used to be on her own.' Uncle replied, 'I only started helping her when i retired a while ago.'

I ordered the wanton noodle and added the braised pork ribs for an extra $1 for a total of $4.00.

The portion was still a lot though a little lesser as compared to before but it still tasted quite the same. The noodle was cooked well to give it the desired springiness and chewiness. The char siew tasted a little dry but the wantons tasted good in a pretty old-fashioned way. The pork ribs were nicely braised as well. It might not be the best wanton noodle that i ever tasted but the familiar taste was rather comforting.

The Uncle approached me a little later. He asked, 'Does it still taste the same?' I nodded and smiled. He said, 'Come back more often then.'

I know i will be back again.

I have been to Amoy Street Food Centre several times during lunch time on weekdays. To say the place is crowded is an understatement. This time, I came down for lunch at 140pm. The lunch crowd was starting to slowly disperse away and more than half of the tables in the level 2 food centre were empty. But the tables were full of plates, bowls, trays as the cleaners struggle to clear them. As you walk inwards, you will notice that some of the utensils including trays are on the floor as customers had to clear the tables themselves.

I knew that this was a good opportunity to try out one of the stalls that always have a long queue during lunch. I decided to zoom straight to Tai Seng Noodle House as there was no queue and I was hungry. Normally, if you come during lunch time, there will be a long stretching queue. There were a couple manning the song. The uncle taking orders and collecting the cash while the lady boss prepares and cooks the food.

Not knowing what to order, I decided to order their Cha Shao Yun Tun Noodle (Char Siew Wanton Noodle). As usual (in fact I will say act smart..), I 'upsized' my order, ordering $4 instead of $3.

I was quite shocked when the uncle gave me my order. It was messy and massive!

This was the $4 Char Siew Wanton Noodle which was served with a bowl of wanton soup. They were extremely generous with the ingredients; char siew, noodles and even wantons.

The Char Siew given was tough and mainly lean meat. If there was a better ratio of fats to lean meat, it would have been better. With such a generous portion of Char Siew given, I got quite tired of chewing the Char Siew. A very generous serving of noodles was given too. The noodles was well cooked, with springiness and not too soggy. It was delish when mixed with the sauce which ensures that each strand of noodles was well lubricated.

The Wanton Soup was normal, there might be some MSG added into the soup. It came with lots of wantons, more than 10 pieces. Although each piece of wanton was small, with such a generous amount given, it was very filling. I especially like the skin of the wanton which was smooth and thin with a chunk of meat fillings in it. (for the sake of comparison, the fillings of each wanton was slightly bigger than those given at Pontian Wanton).

I should not have 'upsized' my order and just order the $3 version. Although I finish the Wantons, I did not manage to finish the noodles and Char Siew.

Tai Seng Noodle House may not serve the best food, but it certainly must be the most value for money food stall around. The portions given are huge. No wonder there is always a long snacking queue at this stall. I heard that the pork rib noodles at this stall are good. If I have another opportunity, I would be keen to try it.

Look at that portion! It's big enough to feed 2 hungry people and this is how generous this Auntie in serving her noodle at this stall. This Auntie is operating this stall all by herself. For $3.00 portion of wanton noodle with pork ribs, i have gotten a few piece of pork ribs and at least 10 fried wantons and 10 soup wantons. If i am eating this alone, i do not think i am able to finish it and that explained why so many plates were left unfinished on the tables near the stall.

The noodle was of good texture and most importantly, no acidic taste. The sauce was nicely savory, and both version of wantons were equally good with nicely braised pork ribs.

Honestly, i would rather the Auntie to reduce the price of the foods rather than giving a more than generous portion and this is to avoid wastage of foods.

If you are very very hungry and happened to be in town, you gotta come by this stall.

Tai Seng Noodle House is located on the second floor of Amoy Street Food Centre. It gets really crowded during lunch hours on weekdays so it might be hard to find a seat. I have to say, the auntie is really generous. For only $3, you'd get a plate of yummy wanton noodles in wanton soya sauce, lots of sliced shredded lean char siew meat, boiled vegetables and a bowl of wanton soup with a generous serving of wanton dumplings. The food was pleasing to my taste buds and filled my tummy well!
