I was quite surprised that nobody has written a review on Wan Kee todate. Wan Kee is easily one of the top 10 long queue stalls at Amoy. Wan Kee offers a variety of cantonese style noodles, such as wanton noodles, dumpling 水饺 noodles, shredded chicken & mushroom noodles, beef brisket noodles, etc. And today, I decided to feast on their beef brisket hor fun!
The beef brisket (pretty generous helping, I noted ) was soft & tender. A bite would render it crumbling down; it could almost melt in your mouth. Lovely!! The thick brown gravy poured on top on the hor fun was flavourful and blended very well with the beef too.Feeling starved, I asked to add dumplings 水饺 into my hor fun. The not-too-big dumplings were bursting with prawns, minced pork and crunchy water chestnuts. At only $1 extra, the 3 dumplings were definitely value for money, and a delight to chomp on.
Ending note: Wan Kee is manned by an interesting couple. Though they bickered regularly (with dagger-looks thrown at each other at times ), yet it never affects their friendly attitude to customers. Once turned to address a customer for orders, they would always put on their brightest smile. Super service! Sometimes they would even drag you into their fun bickerings!! 張貼
