Do you have a hawker store that you eat since young and no matter where else you eat that dish, it is still the best? This is one of my that store. I ate their carrot cake since young due to my brother's fondness for it. But sad to say the 古早味 disappeared after they moved their store from upstairs (beside the wet market) to downstairs after a major revamp to the whole wet market and hawker centre. I suppose its due to their change of utensils and wok. It is slowly coming back but I would think it will take more than a while.. I love the excessive eggs they add into the carrot cake and how all the ingredients comes together to taste so well

I have been frequenting this stall since I was a little kid, which adds up to about a decade at least. I have always ordered their carrot cake without eggs (I know it's weird), chilli and lots of 菜脯 (preserved turnips?). The stall has always had a long queue, back when it was upstairs where the wet market is now, and up till now. The stall owners are always really friendly and always ask after their regulars. They always have a smile for everyone.

It really bring back childhood hood memories whenever i ate this fried carrot cake. as a child, mum would always order fried carrot with lots of sweet dark sauce and no chili for us, gor gor and i loves the scrambled egg with the sweet sauce. As we grow older, we seems to lost touch with this kinda of food. Another thing is partly becoz this stall of fried carrot cake is forever long Q in the morning. It's a popular breakfast choice among hougang and kovan people! Finally had it after a long wait! Hmm....still as delicious like last time. Soft tender carrot kueh covered with a layer of sweet dark sauce, tossed with caipo and surrounded with some scrambled eggs. Hmm.... lovely!
