This stall has been around since Marine Parade Food Centre started, more than 30 years. Many residents in the area grew up with this comfort food. It is highly popular on weekend where bowls and take away containers are stack up, as the order comes in. Waiting time on weekend is around 20 mins and sold out by 10am. Weekday the wait is only 5 mins. They first started selling pork porridge and over the years it has expand to include cuttlefish, fish, & chicken porridge. Prices used to be $2.50 and a couple of year ago they increase to $2.80 without egg. The price has remained stable for the last few years. If you add egg, it is $3.20 and $3.50 if you add century egg. Mixed porridge start from $4 without egg.The piping hot porridge comes with light soya sauce and pepper for you to add to your taste. For sharing you can request extra bowl You can request to add selected ingredients, if you choose 2 meats or combination of seafood, it will be $4. This is enough for 2 small eaters. The Hainanese porridge is the local type not as smooth as the HK congee. They are very generous with the ingredients. For example my order of only Pork Ball and Liver consist of 10 Minced Pork Ball & 3 thick slice of liver. The Pork ball is tasty on its own but the liver is slice too thick, and sometimes comes a bit too raw. I normally pushed the liver down to the bottom of the bowl as I like my liver well cooked. The only thing is that the porridge is a bit too watery towards the end of the bowl. The bowl is sprinkled with pieces of Dough Stick and fried shallots. Those who order fish porridge can also get cut red chillies while cuttlefish porridge also gets peanuts.
