There are two famous prawn noodle stalls at Old Airport Road Market & Food Centre: Albert Street Prawn Noodle, with a long history that can be traced back to 1963, and Whitley Road Big Prawn Noodle, which we have just reviewed. We went there over a weekend and the queue wasn’t that long. However, Albert Street Prawn Noodle seemed to have slightly more patrons than its counterpart Whitley Road Prawn Noodle. Does it mean Albert Street is better in quality and taste?
We ordered the dry version prawn mee ($5) which came with a big bowl of soup with sliced prawns and pork ribs submerged in the stock.
Albert Street Prawn Noodle served up a more generous portion of prawn mee as compared to Whitley Road Prawn Noodle, and the soup was tastier, though we still wouldn’t call it impressive. Looking at the many accolades displayed at the stall, we weren’t able to truly appreciate why – perhaps a case of faded glory?
