Another coffee and toast place. Still love Killiney Rd Killiney Kopitiam. Supposedly, Ya Kun is the second oldest coffee and toast chain after Killiney.The difference between the Ya Kun toast and the Killiney toast is that the Ya Kun one is BROWN and dry, while the Killiney one is still white and not as dry.The Ya Kun toast (as I've been told) is basically a piece of white bread cut into half to make it thinner, and then toasted till brown. This makes is crispy (why do people want crispy toast?)

The Ya Kun toast (as I've been told) is basically a piece of white bread cut into half to make it thinner, and then toasted till brown. This makes is crispy (why do people want crispy toast?)... The butter is nicely melted and the kaya is just sweet enough and very smooth. Some places have terrible kaya that is lumpy and butter that is not melted (i.e. the Coffee & Toast chain)!
Ya Kun is also more expensive than most other coffee and toast places. Not sure why? Their quality is not better. The coffee is similar to Killiney - thick and fragrant and served in a small little traditional-looking coffee cup.
The 2 soft boiled eggs come cracked and hot! So that's why they are more expensive than others? But even their toast by itself is more expensive than others. Anyway, the cracked hot eggs makes it easy on our fingers as usually we burn our fingers cracking the hot eggs. We just added the sauce and pepper and drank the eggs while they were hot... still surprised that we didn't have to crack our own eggs... The egss aren't bad but sometimes you don't get the really fresh taste...
Recommended for convenience but not price or service. Service is a bit rough with the aunties always ogling you and what you're doing...
