Operating under the umbrella of Skinny Pizza, O My Dog has 2 outlets in Singapore, both located right next to a Skinny Pizza store. The first, in Great World City, currently holds the record for the longest operating Hot Dog stand in Singapore, having outlasted all its competitors since it began in September 2011.Ambience varies depending on which O My Dog outlet you visit. The Great World City outlet is a stand-and-eat / takeaway kiosk, whose main attraction is the van-like facade, with the O My Dog logo / balloon dog / sausage links dog on top. The new 100AM outlet is a sit-down cafe, with bright lighting, barely comfortable furniture meant for only short visits, and cramped floor layout.
Service at O My Dog stems from the same Skinny Pizza staff, whose service is average at best. While friendly, I find that most of the staff seem to be quite brusque and rushed, even during non-peak periods. Not so good.O My Dog specialises mainly in creative Hot Dogs... don't expect to find your usual hot dogs here! Recipes are unusual, inspired by cuisines of various countries. But while the toppings are creative and tasty, the quality of the actual hot dogs / sausages used is only average, little better than the low quality ones you get in movie theatres. Prices are much cheaper than anywhere else though.
The Singaporean inspired Hot Dog Bak Chor Mee (SGD $7) featues a grilled pork sausage, sour tangy minced pork braised in vinegar, fresh crunchy grated cucumber strips and a slightly spicy sambal mayonnaise. Garnished with spring onions, I felt this was creative, but doesn't taste close to what a typical Bak Chor Mee should taste like. Decent.
The French inspired Le Dog (SGD $7) features a grilled chicken sausage, pickled thyme, sweet red onion jam relish, and fragrant earthy black truffle mayonnaise. The contrast of sweetness and earthy taste work well together, and this unusual flavour combination makes this an above average dish.
The Japanese inspired The Shogun's Misses (SGD $6.50) features a grilled beef sausage topped with shredded pickled white daikon radish salsa, nori seaweed strands, wasabi mayonnaise, and sesame seeds. This shogun with poor aim / or who is unfaithful to his wife has a pleasant overall taste, very similar to a Okonomiyaki pizza in its contrast of crunchy and sweet.
The creativity extends to desserts as well, such as this Malaysian inspired Onde-Onde Cupcake (SGD $3.50). Palm sugar / Gula Melaka infused dessicated coconut makes for a sweet center, while the pandan / screwpine leaf infused cake is light and fragrant. Topped with pandan / screwpine leaf frosting and shredded young coconut, this is an excellent dessert, highly recommended!
