Ichiban Boshi is not new to lovers of Japanese food in Singapore... for full review please go to kopidiem.wordpress.com For their new opening, there was a special promotion and I took it: Kaizen teppan and spicy ika wazenThe portions for the 2 slices of fish and 2 prawns were a bit small but nevertheless very tasty. For their new opening, there was a special promotion and I took it: Kaizen teppan and spicy ika wazen The portions for the 2 slices of fish and 2 prawns were a bit small but nevertheless very tasty. The sauce was a sweet and tomato-ey type;chawanmushi was very smooth and you could taste the seafood stock used as well. Fried calamari was crispy and squid were fresh. But the highlight of our meal was my bf’s meal–a beef hotplate, with seared salmon and black pepper fried dory! Very sumptuous huh? I tasted the beef gravy and found it tasty but a tad salty. I realised that the food in ichiban boshi is very tasty, but mostly because they use very heavy sauce. He really loved the beef and said it was once of the best he had eaten here in sg.
The dory was quite normal, and the seared salmon even came with a sauce.. its supposed to be a bit like seared tuna, with the outside cooked and inside still raw. Good nonetheless but perhaps with this freshness taking it raw was better?
My only gripe was the gyoza.. it was fried, not panfried, and came in a heavy teriyaki type sauce again. Too much fried, and because it was in the sauce, not crispy anymore. I would not recommend this dish.
All in all we were very very satisfied and they can be sure we would be regulars!
