I think I am getting more & more addicted to Korean food hehe. Heard that there is a great value-for-$ Korean BBQ place at City Square, so I asked 2 other friends to check it out with me. It is located on level 2 of City Square, if you take the escalator to level 2 from the free shuttle bus service area you will immediately see the restaurant. As we only reached the restaurant about 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, it was not crowded, think only 2 or 3 tables were occupied. As we only reached the restaurant about 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, it was not crowded, think only 2 or 3 tables were occupied. We said that we would like to have the ala-carte buffet ($25.90+ per pax) and asked the waitress to recommend dishes for us. According to her, while waiting for the meat to be grilled/ bbq, we can try out their soups and so we did.
As for the fish cake soup, it was a very simple soup so I didn't expect too much. Though nothing special, at least it didn't deviate much from how we think the original Korean fish cake soup should look like haha. The consolation was we could still enjoy drinking the soup amidst so many spicy dishes served.
Actually there were 2 more soups on the menu but as we were too disappointed with the soup we had, we decided to save our stomachs for better food. haha
The good thing about this restaurant is side dishes are refillable and they serve quite a variety - total of 8 side dishes! Although there was 1 weird side dish, which obviously doesn't belong to the authentic Korean side dish family - the preserved sichuan vegetable. Almost all the service staff sound like they are from mainland China, so maybe that's why they decided to add in this "authentic Chinese side dish"?
The next plate was the BBQ version which we also ordered spicy & non-spicy pork & chicken. Again they were well-marinated & tasted really good. What we liked was also the fact that we were given fresh green vegetables to wrap the meat in, and with the special Korean chilli sauce too. The bad point is they also put so little sauce in the big saucer & we had to ask for refill quite often. We also ordered the BBQ beef as our last round of meat, which was equally delicious like the pork & chicken.
After so much meat, we decided to order some carbo. This restaurant introduced us to a new way of cooking Hotpot Bibimbab - by pouring the rice & vegetables onto the hot pan to stir fry it. We were a bit surprised when we saw the waitress doing so, always thought that this would be called fried rice & not hotpot bibimbap haha. Anyhow the taste was not bad. ^^
Oh the waitress told us that during peak periods (probably evenings?) they will impose a 2-hours restriction on the buffet timing so as to cope with the crowd. So better to go during lunch I guess.
